Pelosi aide says Dems have a legislative "trick" to pass Obamacare; So why have a summit?
Washington Examiner ^ | 02/10/10 | Mark Tapscott

Posted on 02/10/2010 3:19:05 PM PST by Mrs. Don-o

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's senior health care advisor has told Congress Daily that congressional Democratic leaders have settled on a strategy they believe will allow them to make changes in both Senate and House Obamacare bills, then send a single, revised version to President Obama for signature.

Congress Daily is a subscription-only publication, but LifeNews.com has these details:

"In comments reported by Congress Daily, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s top health care aide Wendell Primus admitted top Democrats have already decided on the strategy to pass the Senate's pro-abortion, government-run health care bill.

"Primus explained that the Senate will use the controversial reconciliation strategy that will have the House approve the Senate bill and both the House and Senate okaying changes to the bill that the Senate will sign off on by preventing Republicans from filibustering.

“'The trick in all of this is that the president would have to sign the Senate bill first, then the reconciliation bill second, and the reconciliation bill would trump the Senate bill,' Primus said at the National Health Policy Conference hosted by Academy Health and Health Affairs.

“'There's a certain skill, there's a trick, but I think we'll get it done,' he said."

The comments from Primus raise an obvious question: Since it is inconveible that Democratic congressional leaders are moving in this direction without the knowledge of the White House, why call a health care summit and challenge congressional Republicans to come with their best ideas when the plan is already in place to use legislative trickery to pass Obamacare?

The most logical answer would seem to be that the summit is part and parcel of a White House/congressional Democratic strategy to distract attention from what is about to happen on the Hill. It's the classic magician's trick of distracting you with the left hand while the right hand does the "trick."

The worst mistake the dumbass republicans could make would be to agree to meet with Zero. It’s a lose-lose situation for them. They should just say, “Thanks, but no thanks.”

If they’re going to decline they have to say:

“We oppose the further expansion of government debt at a time that we can least afford it. Involving the government forcing you to buy something and pay for it crosses the line and we oppose it on Constitutional grounds as well. So Mr. President thanks but no thanks.”

I’m one of the few however that feel we should take him on. Killing babies in this bill with taxpayer money, not reforming trial lawyers who contribute to the high cost of medicine and once again forcing people to buy something they don’t want are all enough to meet him head on with steam. They should treat him as if he were on trial. Obama is banking on people feeling sorry for him. But in November it’s still a bloodbath for Democrats.

>>>Maybe the “summit” IS the trick.<<<

—Bingo! It will be— We tried bipartisanship and the roadblock Republicans lack of cooperation forced us to this.

I believe that if the Rats passed this so-called health care bill through reconciliation then it would sunset in 5 years without re-authorization.

This is what the GOP needs to get out to the public asap. why is Obie wanting to meet when they have this up their selves. It show that the bipartisan meeting is a joke and Obama has no real intentions of working with the GOP..........

THIS NEEDS TO GET OUT..EVERY WHERE..IT’S OUR ONLY HOPE OF STOPPING THE MANIPULATION HE IS TRYING TO DO

Speaking of rules, under what rules will this meeting be held? It's often said that "he who sets the agenda, wins the game." Who will craft this half-day agenda? What are the objectives? What will the procedure be if they reach an impasse?

When Boehner was on Greta van Susteren's show the other night, he was asked those questions and had no idea. No idea who would be there, no idea about the format, nothing. If they were clever, the Republicans would have said "Sure, we'll meet. Here's the day, time, location and agenda. See you then!"

As for House Rats who lose their seats, they will be given lucrative positions at Fannie or Freddie or SEIU or an ambassadorship or some such thing.

Here's the problem, if Rahm or Obama promises you a fat salary for one of these positions, do you believe him? First, how do you know there will be enough of those positions for all of the Reps and Sens and their staffs if 60+ of them are voted out? Second, how do you know that he's not lying to you (no honor among thieves, there're a lot of political corpses under that bus of Obama's)? Third, how do you know that you'll have that job by January 2013? Because getting voted out of office is the worst thing you can do if you want to get on those boards and blue-ribbon panels. For most of them, it's too late to resign their seat elegantly.

” So why have a summit?...”

they haven’t the votes. they need to find what to put in there(and what it will cost in terms of payola to the congresscritter) to get some of the Pubbies on board.

It will all be stripped out later....

If republicans had “cojones” I would agree with you. If they meet with him then they’ll just cave again just as they have proven time and time again.

How could this happen, you ask?

Because the Democrat Party of today is run by the radical a&&holes who rioted in the streets and murdered cops 40 years ago.

They are adamant they WILL push SOCIALISM through. Laws and rules and our Constitution mean NOTHING to them.

They Lewinsky the corpses of Marx and Alinsky.

Yeah, but do you think those who were allowed to vote “no” will vote “yes” in wake of the Brown election?

The RATs only need 217 votes to pass a bill, since there are only 433 members right now. That being said, there is no way that Pelosi can get all 217 remaining Democrats that voted for ObamaCare in November to vote for the Senate version (to name just one obvious defector, Stupak has already said that he won’t vote for the Senate bill). In fact, even if Pelosi submitted the exact same bill that the House approved in November (which she can’t do, since it would get filibustered in the Senate), she still wouldn’t be able to get 217 votes because Blue Dogs now know that voting for ObamaCare will kill their chances of getting reelected. All of this is just posturing for the benefit of Leftist groups.

Let them try to pass it in any manner they choose, though they will do so at their own peril. The arrogance these oligarchs display blinds them, as the law of unintended consequences tends to be most unkind. I do not think they are aware of the tsunami sized backlash that is forming against them.

“Axelrod believes that politically they are better off going this route and facing the wrath of voters in November than having tried to get Obamacare, not passed it, and facing the wrath of the voters in November.”

The libs/dems and leadership pubbies just DON’T get it!

The American people don’t want ONE MORE THIN DIME to be spent on ANYTHING else, NOTHING, get it?!

The American people are YELLING that no expense should be contracted that can be avoided until much further in the future.

We need to recoup the bailout finds from the Wall Street fatcats, we need to reissue the Bush tax cuts and make them permanent, they need to reduce taxes levied on businesses and offer multiple business incentives.

The democrat trap for the republicans is that they want to get the republicans on board on ANY version of the National Healthcare Plan a.k.a. Obamacare that the republicans can ideologically sign off on and that way the democrats get all the kudos for getting Obama’s “signature” piece of legislation passed.

In other words, at this point, the WH and democrat leadership do not actually care very much about the content of the final “Obamacare” bill. They care more about keeping their own necks in November.

Compromise on the part of the democrats will cause the republicans to have to share in being the target of the the rath of the people on the passage of this huge boondoggle bill come the midterm elections in November.

It is very important that the republicans appear to be willing to “talk” about healthcare improvements and it is important for them to showcase their healthcare ideas, but they cannot for any reason support the passage of any healthcare bill, not matter its content, not until after the midterm elections.

Obama is just trying to reduce the margin by which the republicans will win in November.

It is clear to ALL political strategists that unless something occurs to “extend” the “crooks and thieves” image that the American people currently hold of the democrats to include the republicans, too many democrats will not be elected or re-elected in the fall and they will lose control of the house and may lose control of the Senate.

They probably had it fixed so that the most vulnerable didn’t have to vote yes, but will the second time around to pass it. Just a guess.

Griffith voted NO back in Nov when he was a Democrat, so his vote against will have no net impact.
