Things I don’t miss about George W. Bush (Michelle Malkin)

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but someone has to do it.

The “Miss Me Yet?” billboard (inspired by Jonathan Maney’s t-shirts) is cute. But let’s not get carried away with nostalgia.

President Bush put America on the proper war footing after 9/11 and deserves much credit for doing so, but he also:

1) joined with open-borders progressives McCain and Kennedy to try to force shamnesty down our throats;

2) massively expanded the federal role in education;

3) championed the Medicare prescription drug entitlement using phony math;

4) kowtowed to the jihadi-enabling Saudis;

5) stocked DHS with incompetents and cronies;

6) pushed Hillarycare for housing;

7) enabled turncoat Arlen Specter;

8. nominated crony Harriet Myers to the Supreme Court;

9) pre-socialized the economy for Obama by embracing TARP, the auto bailouts, the AIG bailout, and in his own words:

“I’ve abandoned free-market principles to save the free-market system.” – George W. Bush

No, I don’t miss having a corporate socialist Republican in the White House any more than I like having a corporate socialist Democrat in the White House now.

LOL! Do you know how much some people on FR hated President Bush for not doing enough about Terri Schiavo?

You need to do your homework, Mark (not the kind you did in public school). You are ALL mixed up.

Malkin is a malcontent

Hmmm...Malcontent?

I remember that phrase repeatedly being used during the Bush years against those that supported conservative principles over political party and profits. Those not willing to compromise their principles, were labeled malcontents, by the party of lesser evil.

Some things never change.

I don’t know much about Bush’s integrity either. A few days before the 2006 Congressional elections, he pledged that he would not fire Don Rumsfeld or change his Iraq policy. The day after the election he fired Rumsfeld.

A lot of Republican congressmen lost their seats in 2006 because of Bush’s lying about his plans for Don Rumsfeld. By the way, has anyone SEEN Don Rumsfeld in the last three years?

Thank you for the information about Michelle on the sanctity of life.

That makes it even more curious that she never, EVER gives President Bush credit when so many pro-lifers recognize him for being unrelentingly pro-life.

I remember him trying to take over a State issue with Terry Schaivo and trying to handle it on the federal level.

Right to life is a federal issue since the beginning. States can not murder their citizens at the whim of law makers. Only the biggest of dipsticks don't understand that.

Rumsfeld resigned. Your sources are bad.

Better than Nixon? No way. Nixon had tremendous faults but he opened China to the West as a coutnerweight to the USSR, prosecuted the Vietnam War over virulent opposition that eventually brought him down, cracked down on crime, and yes, he was quite bright and reasonably well-spoken, neither of which attribute describes GW Bush.

The basic problems I have with Nixon are that he put a lot of emphasis on expanding LBJ's Great Society programs and was largely a domestic policy/social programs Liberal, he futzed around too long with Vietnam (could've done the Christmas Bombing a lot earlier, and could've ditched the whole "Madman" gamesmanship with Kissinger) and Watergate.

And the thing about Watergate is the impact him being forced from office had. Congressional Class of 1974 (remnants of THAT are still with us, although thankfully dwindling away ... ref: Murtha taking the old dirt nap) and the inability of Ford to uphold commitments to South Vietnam ... which DID kick off the Domino Effect in SEA and had major repercussions elsewhere. His behavior also ushered a two-bit Governor, incompetant and peanut farmer into the Presidency, to which can be traced the Jihadi cr*p we're currently dealing with (Afghanistan and Iran).

Not 10% of Americans can name the SecDef but Bush lost all those republican seats because he let Rumsfeld go. Thanks for the laugh.

Since Jan 8, 2010

I only point this out when it's relevant.

It now makes sense that poor old Mark is using such faulty data. He's a newbie, and most likely a troll, coming armed with leftist BDS nonsense.

(See how he fits in with our 'own' BDS'ers? Indistinguishable.....)

I don’t appreciate her piling on President Bush. Given what we are going through with the commie in the WH I think it is in bad taste.

That makes it all the more curious why Malkin would not give credit to Pres. Bush on the life issue.

She lists all the negatives, but doesn't mention his stalwart stance on an issue she claims to be so avid about?

VERY hypocritical of her.

It was exactly the opposite. People wanted a new strategy in Iraq and a new Secretary of Defense, but Bush lied to them and said he was retaining Rumsfeld and would keep the old policy. The next day he put in Gates and announced the surge policy.

I know my GOP congressman Clay Shaw blamed his loss on Bush’s deceit.

Evidently a touch of Bush Derangement Syndrome has infected Michelle. Bush did many good things as POTUS and a few things not so good. But he is and was a good man and a CIC. I miss him in that role for sure. Hell I had to serve under Jimmy Carter for a couple of years so I can empathise with todays grunts serving under Ibama the Navy Corpseman.

Not at all, if there ever was a RINO it has to be George W. Bush.

No Child Left Behind with Teddy Kennedy

McCain-Feingold, Bush signed it.

Prescription Drug entitlement and refuses to pay for it with spending cuts.

GWB refused to veto one spending bill until after he had lost the Republican congress.
Bailout of GM and Chrysler.

The more you learn about GWB , you realize he was to the left of John McCain.

I like President Bush despite his mistakes. I hold in contempt the members of both parties and the Americans who lost their balls and opposed him both actively and passively in his mission to win in Iraq, Afghanistan and against jihadism in general.

I'm sure that includes many members of FR.

You clearly haven't learned enough if you think that, newbie.

Roberts and Alito are holding this country together by a thread. Originalist, strong Constitutional SC justices.

That fact alone negates your absurd hyperbole. (And there are many others).

But I have no doubt you'll continue spewing your nonsense. Don't let the truth get in your way.

I know my GOP congressman Clay Shaw blamed his loss on Bush’s deceit.

BS. Kerry won 52% of the votes in your district ibn 2004. You live in a commie district, like I do. Suck it up and quit blaming everything on Bush.

BTW, Shaw had Bush and Cheney campaigning for him that year down in Broward. Clay either forgot that or you are simply making up more delusional crap.

Alito was not Bush’s first choice. He wanted Harriet Myers on the Court because she was a moderate and a pal from his Texas days.

Most people think she was pro-choice or a David Souter sort of stealth Justice.

Dubya was not a RINO. He was a CINO, conservative in name only.

>>>>>The more you learn about GWB , you realize he was to the left of John McCain.

LOL McCain is another CINO.

Some of the early sign ups are the worst. They lay low for awhile and then come hissing back.
