Well, he was a lifer in his seat, entrenched due to the millions upon millions of dollars of pork that he brought in. With the seat vacant, maybe it’s a pickup for the Rs if they play it right. I’ve known people from Johnstown, it’s a working-class area that’s been hammered by the decline of American heavy industry, full of “Reagan Democrats”—Polish- and German-descended folks, blue-collar workers, socially conservative but unionized and generally voting Democratic.
