Between 6:30-9:45 Super Bowl XLIV averaged a 46.4/68 (household rating/share) in preliminary Nielsen numbers. If it holds up in the finals we will see new records. This is better than last years 42.1/65 by 10 percent.
Unfortunately its not possible to accurately predict the number of average viewers based on preliminary household rating, but given the general trend of the numbers, it looks like last years viewing record of 98.7 million average viewers will be shattered, and 100 million for the New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts certainly looks possible.
In the 9:30p-9:45pm portion of the game almost 51 percent of the households in the USA were tuned to the game, and of people who were watching television at that time, 71 percent were watching the Super Bowl.
Manning is a great QB, but he’s a step down from the big game heroes. That was an ugly interception, and shortly after the same guy almost picked him in the same manner. Manning choked.
Inclement weather and deep snow over highly populated areas of the US keep a lot more people at home in front of the TV for yesterday’s game.
“Roots” was near the top of the all time TV ratings, it was originally broadcast during a particularly cold and snowy January 1977.
I wonder how many people saw the Tebow ad. :)
Does that mean the DEAR LEADER was watched by a 100+ million? Ughhhh...I hope they were ticked off at the JOKERS crushing in on their party!! Otherwise the Prompter-in-chief will get a good bounce!
Great game. However, those were the LAMEST, worst commercials ever. Just lame.
When I saw that interception I shouted: “Who let Brett Favre in here!”
I only watched to see the Tebow ad. I think the brouhaha before the ad was bigger than the ad itself. I want to thank the abortion crowd for bringing the ad to everyoneâs attention because if I didn’t know before hand what the ad was trying to accomplish, I’m afraid I would have missed the point.
Sat down to enjoy a football game, came away feeling as though I had watched a basketball game. The NFL has gone too far in rigging the game for passing attacks. We want to watch football not basketball. Boring game altogether. Totally forgetable.
TV has become the new ‘entertainment’
No money for dining out, taking weekend vacations, thanks to the dreadful economy.
My guess is that more people will be watching TV this year.
Thanks, most of the commercials were terrible.
What happened to our talent?
Topped off by that lame, really lame, census commercial.
I WANT MY MONEY BACK.
Even the Clydesdale commercial left me with with a weird feeling when the two guys mentioned that fences could keep friends apart.
Interesting. Spoke with family and friends from around the country and all had the same thoughts.
Boring game. Seemed to have no energy or excitement.
I thought it was one of the better Super Bowl games. And the officiating was better than usual-—only one review that I remember...and the on-field call was over-turned, correctly.
It used to be the game was lame and the commercials were great. We're living in Bizarro World.
That was an AMAZING play by that player, BTW. In live action, I didn’t even think it was close. On replay, it was a spectacular effort. In the end, it didn’t factor into the outcome, but I love seeing someone play that hard.
Manning had them heading for a touchdown. They had three first downs in a row on the ground! then that slant pass and the interception. He should have stayed on the ground...there was plenty of time.
I wonder if the high ratings might have anything to do with the mid-atlantic blizzard. If 100 people stayed home instead of going to the bar or to a private party, that would be 100 people watching the game on 100 TVs instead of 100 people watching the game on 1 TV. Obviously, the numbers are much higher than that, but for arguments sake, does that make a difference? I don’t know how the ratings system works.
