She resigned because she'd become a lightning rod for Statist anger, and had to defend herself and her family from repeated oncoming frivolous investigations; something that caused family hardship. She resigned because it became more and more difficult to do the job of governor. I believe it was the right decision for the time. Now, just when did Reagan go through that type of assault while in office?
