Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Once again President Obama has singled out Las Vegas, this time reminding Americans to avoid places like Vegas when they want to save money.
He made the comments during a speech in New Hampshire Tuesday.
"This isn't how responsible families do their budgets," he said. "When times are tough, you tighten your belts. You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you're trying to save for college."
The comments are similar to remarks he made last year when he said companies using government bailout money shouldn't hold conventions and meetings.
Nevada lawmakers and leaders were quick to critique Obama's latest remarks.
In a statement, Senator Harry Reid said, "That while the President is correct that people saving for college need to be fiscally responsible, the President needs to lay off Las Vegas and stop making it the poster child for where people shouldn't be spending their money."

As set forth by example to us all, Obama’s federal budget. Absolutely the paradigm of tightening a belt in tough times.
No doubt his nearly 2-trillion dollar deficit (Yeah, so what’s a few billion in Obama bucks?) this year is saving us tens of trillions of dollars down the road, and he can prove it all with hypothetical statistics put out by a red and blue machine with funny flashing yellow lights....
(The blatant double-speak of this monstrous imposter is really too much to swallow sometimes.)
How does this bastard dare make a statement like this while he proposes an irrational and irresponsible budget with a 45% deficit and more to come as far as the eye can see? Is this about "freezing" one tenth of the budget with a $20B savings in year 3? Against a backdrop of $1,000+B deficits forever? How stupid does this socialist moron and his Alinsky-trained staff think we are?
Mayor calls him “slow learner”
Obama’s a typical democrat and therefore a slow learner.
I’m with the President:
You don’t blow a lot of cash in Vegas, YOU BLOW IT IN WASHINGTON.
How can the mayor be so foolish as to miss the fact that this isn’t a presidential mistake, it is the single most important plank in his platform.
Nothing could be more important for the future of the country than the discipline required to SEND ALL THE MONEY to D.C. The Republicans should be ashamed to insist that some of the money ought to be “blown” in their own states, counties, cities and districts.
Now that I’ve thought this through, I think it should become the slogan (if not the Mantra) of the Obama/Bolshevik wing of the Democratic Party.
The city's Mayor Oscar Goodman, had harsh words for the president:
"He didn't learn his lesson the first time, but when he hurt our economy by his ill conceived rhetoric, we didn't think it would happen again.
Now that it has I want to assure you, when he comes I'll do everything I can to give him the boot back to Washington and to visit his failures back there.
I gotta tell you this, everybody says I shouldn't say it, but I gotta tell you the way it is. This president is a real slow learner."
I own a small business here in Las Vegas and had 3 opportunities to expand last year. I balked each time solely based on my instincts that Obama was out to destroy our economy. Sadly I made the right call as evidenced by his recent budget proposals and continued class warfare rhetoric.
He lectures us on how we screwed up things instead of providing leadership.
After seeing him in action, I don't think he is qualified to lecture on any subject.
