Newser) – Moderate Mark Kirk has won Illinois’ Republican Senate primary, blowing away two conservative opponents backed by tea-party contingents. The congressman has 56% of the vote with more than 82% of precincts reporting—giving him a 37% lead over Patrick Hughes. Analysts predicted that a clear Kirk victory would take much of the steam out of the tea-party movement.

On the Democratic side, the Chicago Tribune reports, state treasurer Alexi Giannoulias looks close to clinching the nomination, setting up a fight with Kirk for the Senate seat vacated by President Obama.

Something like that...

The Repukelican powers that be in Illinois better consider this a wake up call!

Conservatives did well in Illinois... except
too many of them ran and Hughes could have used some support/endorsement from the Conservative/gubernatorial candidates and vice-versa.

Run Patrick Run!

Agreed. The Mccains and the Specters and the Collins-Snowes have been the bane of the GOP. Their idea of bipartisanship is to help the Democrats get whatever they want, no questions asked.

Won’t be getting any outside grassroots support that’s for sure.

They read the polls and made the spin before the election that this would take the steam out of the Tea Party movement if they lost, when it was clear Kirk would win.

Illinois is getting ready to take the same track as Michigan and California. What you vote for is what you get.

Kirk will win over the mobster. There is a tide coming that will make 1994 look like a narrow victory.

There are conservatives but they are stupid or dead. The IL GOP isn't going to undergo a rebirth any time soon.

You’re absolutely right when you say “Patrick Hughes should run as an independent conservative. Or someone should. IL voters deserve better than two liberals!”

Screww the Illinois Republican Party that has been run by the high-roller, blue-blood, democrat-lite scum!

Illinois Republicans have to go thru a purging THEY ARE LUKEWARM AND VILE AND I SPEW THEM FROM OUT OF MY MOUTH!

My Money and my Vote support only Conservative Principle’s!

Is there a conservative person with good name recognition who is not a politician that could be persuaded to run?

What about the Governor’s race? How do you feel about it?

The Governor's race has a real conservative. My prediction is the IL party establishment will see to it that Brady loses. Their worst nightmare is a conservative shakeup of the corrupt power structure dominated by liberals there.

Name recognition, media support, and sheepish nature of Republicans helps progressives.
Hughes doubled his support in 3 weeks. If the primary were in March, he could have won.

You are right.

I can’t and won’t compromise and say to myself or be told by others that if I don’t vote for Kirk then the demtards will win the seat.

Maybe then, from the ashes of this once proud party and the home state of Ronald Reagan, we can resurect a political party that we can be proud of!

Time for a conservative / tea party candidate to oppose thi liberal-ass republican. If Kirk wins in November, he will “specter” us for many years.

Nonsense. Apart from Kirk, there’s a strong grassroots conservativce resurgence in the Republican party. I can’t think of a brighter set of up and coming young conservatives than Plummer and Andrzejewski. Brady’s not too bad and one of the reasons he probably defeated Dillard, if he does, will be because Dillard is closer to the Chicago area and therefore, in the minds of most, to the Combine.

When was the last time Illinois had two downstaters running for governor and lieutenant governor?

Cut it out with the blanket statements. Even Kirk could have been defeated if a decent conservative had stepped forward. They all went after the governorship. Fine. The governor can play a big role in a Reagan-style rebuilding. Take over the party, kick the Combine out.

How did the scumbag Democrats get this pantload on the Republican ticket, and how were Illinois Republicans stupid enough to vote for him? Was it an open primary? Was he the preferred candidate of the GOP machine?

Agree with you. Scotch the Senate and focus on the statehouse. The next time an election rolls around, IL voters will be able to have a real choice not just two parties agreeing on the direction of government.

I didn’t pick up on Patrick Hughes until very late in the campaign!

Conservative networking and getting our message out is near non-existant in my area. We have to do better!
