IIRC, it only takes ONE justice on the SC to request that a case come before it. It takes one to have it go to conference, but the conference of all the Justices, decides whether to "take the case". Usually they decide not to take a case. And they don't say why when they reject one.

IIRC, it only takes ONE justice on the SC to request that a case come before it. Any Justice can put a case brief up to conference, which is where the briefs are read and they collectively vote on which ones to hear. It takes four votes from the conference to put the case on the court's calendar.
