Illinois Senate Candidate Kirk says No to Drilling

The Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is a prized jewel of our national ecosystem. Congress should work to preserve this environmental sanctuary. I remain strongly opposed to drilling for oil in the ANWR. The House budget does not provide funding for Alaskan oil drilling. As we move toward budget reconciliation, I will work with my colleagues to keep the Alaskan wilderness pristine and untouched.

Thanks. Good for Levin for endorsing him. Is he dreadfully underfunded? How far behind is he in the polls?
To: Maelstorm
Great. Like we really need a Lindsey Graham Jr.

Im sorry to say they have to have these stupid liberal positions in these states BUT
I also have to say it enrages me. What the hell does anyone in Illinois care to stop development in ALASKA that can only benefit people in Illinois.
I swear we have been dumbed down like idiots.
These people think Alaska is a park down the street.
Do they have any idea that ANWR is the size of South Carolina, and Alaska the size of California, Arizona and New mexico combined?
It’s like someone in Chcago worrying about an oil well in Mississipi. Just absurd.

What this uneducated moron doesn’t know is that he is seeing oil drilling with a 1970s mind. New technology would blow him away. He could not find the drilling site with a map in ANWAR

"Wow. No one whos looked into this issue for even 15 minutes can rationally believe that the proposed drilling would endanger the environment." It's a sense of scale, and people not realizing how big Alaska is. I've read that as a percentage, the Alaskan wilderness that would need to be developed and engineered to drill in ANWR would be the comparative equivalent to a football field in the state of South Carolina. Kind of puts things in perspective.

Any congressman who says this should be required to spend one week camping in this “national treasure” in January.
To: Vigilanteman
I have seen tiny articles explaining that the caribou in many years stay in Canada and don’t breed in Alaska at all. In addition to the fact the drilling would not affect them adversely.
I’s just insane.
I guarantee that OPEC funds the environmental groups to spread this nonsense.

The problem is, he’s the leading contender for the Republican nomination for “The Obama Seat” in the Senate. /sarc.
Put yourself in our shoes here in IL, depending on what happens on Tuesday, we may have the choice between voting for this nimrod Kirk, or a Chicago-style Democrat who’ll be just another sock-puppet for Dickie Turbin. Whaddya do?

Once again, John Cornyn shows his ineptitude as head of the NRSC. He backed Specter for 2010 virtually up to the day that Specter left the party (when many conservatives wanted Toomey). He threw is support to Fiorina against Boxer in CA (throwing Larry Elder under the bus in the process) and is now backing this ass clown when a real conservative (Adam Andrzejewski) is available.
John Cornyn is welcome to stick around the senate as long as he keeps voting conservative, but he must go as head of the NRSC.

He sounds like a leftie. Does he agree with Conservatives on anything?

It's not just the shelter. I was in Alaska in '60 and saw the caribou herds. The estimate was about 24,000. The oil pipeline was built on top of pillars because,
HERE'S THE FACT THAT KIRK DOES UNDERSTAND
the oil lays on top of a magma field and comes out of the ground at about 300 degrees!
The caribou winter in the Brooks Range just south of the Anwar. It is here the pipeline is routed south. The caribou calve in the meadows of the Brooks range and spend the winter under the pipeline!!!!
More calves survive, caribou life expectancy has increased and the whole ecology benefits. Now the Caribou herd is around 120,000. There are more wolves, more weasles,(except Kirk and his ilk), more rabbits more birds and a blossomming that can be attributed to mankinds concern for the environment.

I'm not trying to sound disrespectful but this is the same lesser of two evils approach used in the 2008 Presidential campaign. The end result being more evil regardless of who was going to be elected. Consequently we went further down the socialist path regardless of the outcome. Do you really want to implement the same strategy knowing it will result in more socialism?

So what? MA interim senator Kirk has been voting unlawfully since January 19.
To: Man50D
I hate everything about this guy’s ANWR position but we need republicans in that senate. If he wins the nomination there is no benefit to letting the dem win the election. You saw the effect of Scott Brown’s election. I Don’t even know his position on ANWR.

I love his educational background.. Representative Kirk graduated from New Trier High School (Winnetka) and attended Blackburn College (Carlinville) and the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico before earning a B.A. from Cornell. He holds a Masters Degree from the London School of Economics and a law degree from Georgetown.
To: Vigilanteman
The caribou also occupy 1/4 of the Earth's land surface, and those areas are almost exclusively theirs.
Certainly caribou are not short of range!

I'm afraid he's not in anybody's mainstream.

Why not Patrick Hughes? My understanding is the he is far more Conservative than Kirk. He supports drilling in ANWR. Please don't tell me you won't vote for him because it doesn't seem as though he can win. If that is the case then I remind you Scott Brown was down by 20 points only one month from the election.
Scott Brown is far more Conservative than Kennedy ever was and is more Conservative than Coakley. His election is a step back to Conservative principles.
