Toyota Motor Corp.'s decision to blame its widening sudden-acceleration problem on a gas pedal defect came under attack Friday, with the pedal manufacturer flatly denying that its products were at fault.
Federal vehicle safety records reviewed by The Times also cast doubt on Toyota's claims that sticky gas pedals were a significant factor in the growing reports of runaway vehicles. Of more than 2,000 motorist complaints of sudden acceleration in Toyota and Lexus vehicles over the last decade, just 5% blamed a sticking gas pedal, the analysis found.
What's more, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has conducted eight investigations into sudden-acceleration problems in Toyota vehicles over the last seven years, none of which identified a sticking pedal as a potential cause.

OBAMASCAM ALERT!
By next week, Toyota may be synonymous with Audi 5000.
2000 car drivers complain and the NHTSA looks at a whopping eight of the complaints?
Wonder if the upshot of this cat fight will be that “Toyota was using our gas pedals outside of our documented specifications.”
Jap Kowtower alert!
Fungu Straits. Akakazi!
CTS Corp. of Elkhart, Ind., said in a statement that it had "deep concern that there is widespread confusion and incorrect information" about its products linked to the sudden-acceleration issue.
"The problem of sudden unintended acceleration has been reported to have existed in some Lexus vehicles and Toyota vehicles going back to 1999, when CTS did not even make this product for any customer," the company said.
Toyota began using CTS-made pedals in the 2005 model year.
Toyota spokesman Brian Lyons said the company had no comment on CTS' statement.
Toyota has honored CTS three times since 2005 for the quality and efficiency of its work, citing the fact that the supplier "exceeded quality expectations" and achieved "100 percent on-time delivery and for shipping accelerator pedal modules with zero defects.",
Obama is after them..No Union of parasites.
Obama caused sudden acceleration in Toyotas in 1999? Wow, he IS the Messiah?
Little known fact: some vehicles have problems with sudden self acceleration due to fluctuations in voltage across the vehicle’s electrical system. This is due to an auto’s battery running in a low voltage state and causing fluctuations in voltage which adversely affect one of the vehicle’s computers.
I know because I own one of these vehicles. It was manufactured by General Motors. As long as the battery is replaced every three years and is never allowed to run down, the problem is non existent.
Obama is a MESS!
I, too, had a vehicle with sudden self acceleration and the problem would manifest itself after it was connected to the battery for a little bit of time. I think it had to do with the vehicle's computer as well. It was manufactured by Ford, but lucky for me, it was a manual instead of an automatic.
Mine is a 1995 Cadillac.
Our local dealer said that it has to do with one of the computers, no one is sure which, so replacing all onboard computers is an option but very, very expensive. It’s cheaper just to replace the battery every three years and not let it run down.
I have a 2008 Tundra Double cab and I love it. I hope they remedy this problem soon, because I plan to upgrade to the Tundra CrewMax.
Toyota will fix things and all will be right again.
Heck, I also own a 1991 Ford F250, diesel, and had to replace the transmission at 50K, the rear wheel seals at 20K and the air conditioner at 10K. Heck, the paint started falling off at 4 years. There are potential issues with anything you buy.
I trust that Toyota will take care of me, Ford sure didn’t.
Fly by wire is unreliable give me a mechanical linkage I can trust with no electrons or software in the control path.
CTS boyz “forgot” their “Bammy fund “donation”......
BINGO! It is ECM malfunction in either the software or sensor’s.
True. I’ve seen it in VW’s with failing alt’s that produce poor quality voltage.
..... The use of electronic management in the operation and management of automobiles is a very great deal more pervasive than many people believe. Almost every operating aspect of the auto - engine, steering, suspension, braking, climate control, even seating - are controlled to one degree or another by electronics today. While it provides improved performance and economy, safer operation, and a more comfortable driving experience, it is also mind bendingly complex and VERY expensive to repair.
Good luck trying to sell or trade one in now!
