Obama to Republicans: 'work with me' (You bunch of Bolsheviks!)

BALTIMORE, Maryland (AFP) – President Barack Obama Friday chided Republicans for portraying his health reform plan as a "Bolshevik plot" and for saying he wanted to do "crazy stuff that is going to destroy America."

In a highly unusual televised question-and-answer session, Obama told his foes they should not just oppose him for political gain, warning that elected officials should care more about jobs of voters than their own.

"I'm not a pundit, I'm just a president. So take it for what it's worth -- but I don't believe that the American people want us to focus on our job security."

"They want us to focus on their job security," Obama said, at a retreat for Republican members of the House of Representatives in Baltimore.

Voters did not want gridlock, partisanship and obstruction, Obama argued, in an appearance which effectively used the symbolism of his office, in a week in which he has tried to reboot his presidency after a brutal political year.

"They didn't send us to Washington to fight each other in some sort of political steel cage match to see who comes out alive. That's not what they want."

"They sent us to Washington to work together, to get things done, and to solve the problems that they're grappling with every single day."

Obama has repeatedly stressed that Washington politics are broken -- the issue played an important part in his campaign in 2008 -- but has been unable to make any progress in forging bipartisan consensus since he took office.

As long as Boehner is designated the voice of the opposition do not expect any change for the better. He is now going to a press conference ( no fist thru TV). This is exactly what he is doing. As Glenn showed last night, the Republicans are irrelevant to his plans. They can state their positions but they can do nothing to stop him. His problem is with those who are not his “progressive friends”. But he attacks the Rs to try to make the people think they are the ones that are messing up his program.

Strong language is needed against this fraud and it can be backed up. But just who is speaking realistically except for Sarah Palin who is actually calling this arrogant, condescending, nasty brat out on all his lies. He has the audacity to talk like that and will they point out the contradictions? He says it with impunity thinking they can continue to get away with the lies when the media doesn’t report on his attempted power grab and overly partisan, ‘I won’ BS. He is able to be taken down and he is proving he needs to be opposed strongly with these mocking words. I hate this worthless SOB.

Well, the term "narcissist" does come to mind, does it not?

And Karl Rove is exactly on point with that remark.

Basically, if you listen to what embattled President Obama says with what I call a lawyer's ear, you will rather quickly realize that he's not actually saying anything that he can be held to. For example, when a normal person promises to listen to what someone else has to say, that usually implies that the first person will take that someone else seriously, and will accept any arguments that person makes that are reasonable. However, if you read the words literally, without implying anything into them, all you get is a the promise to listen, and absolutely no promise to do anything more than listen, in the same way that one might listen to the dishwashing machine washing dishes.
