“There should be one standard for applying for what is a constitutional right,” Timilty said.

Let's license our rights, NOT!

“Tough cases make bad law.”

There are already enough laws (crimes) with which to charge the parent, the range supervisor, and others for the INSANITY of that eight-year-old’s death.

Those morons at the Westfield gun club did more damage to our RKBA than the d&mn Brady Bunch. They distributed flyers advertising blasting away with machine guns as “fun” and then handed one to an 8 year old. The RKBA is not about “fun” and machine guns are not recreational equipment, even for adults. If we don’t take our RKBA seriously, we’ll lose it.

“There should be one standard for applying for what is a constitutional right,” Timilty said.

Do you have to submit an application for the constitutional rights of Free Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Association, Freedom from unreasonable search and seizure, etc. or are those constitutional rights inherent? The notion of somebody "applying for what is a constitutional right" should be deeply offensive to anybody who values liberty.

A ban for anyone ever indicted? Not convicted, just indicted?

So, even if the DA charges wrong guy and he’s cleared at trial, he’ll lose his right to own a gun? That’s just wrong.

No individual under the age of 18 would be allowed to handle a fully automatic firearm, even with a parent’s permission, under legislation overhauling the state’s gun laws that lawmakers considered Wednesday.

No need to wonder why. The kids might find out that it's fun.

Lauren Hyer, executive director of Stop Handgun Violence, said she is still reviewing the bill, but took issue with one component: She said the licensing authority should stay with police chiefs.

It should be in the hands of the communities she said. They know the people in the communities.

She added that Massachusetts has among the lowest firearm fatality rates in the nation. Our [present] gun laws have worked out. she said.

A quick look into the Department of Justice - FBI records for 2008, table 5 (the most recent that are on line)shows that violent crime for MA per 100,000 persons is at 449.0. That number alone means nothing, but when compared to all of the states with a common border...VT: 135.9, NH: 157.2, RI: 249.4, CT: 297.8, NY: 398.1. How do these people think???

Here's the bill:

H2259

This is actually really, really good considering it's MA. It makes it clearly a shall issue state, for residents and non-residents, and gives non-residents a real permit for 6 years at $40 total instead of the current 1-year temp permit at $100/year.

Boy, 8, dies after accidentally shooting himself with UZI at Westfield Sportsman's Club machine gun shoot

Apparently he lost control of the weapon and shot himself in the head.

These things aren't toys and there's no reset button when you screw up.

My son shoots my Uzi subgun quite well. He’s 14 now, but has been shooting since he was 6.
