NASA on Tuesday declared an end to Spirit's roving career after repeated attempts to free it from a sand pit where it's been stuck for nine months. With Martian winter approaching, the focus instead will turn to improving Spirit's tilt so its solar panels can receive maximum sunlight.

It's a shame there's no one there to help it out of the sand! These rovers are great examples of good old American determination!

I find that simply amazing. They have far out lived what everyone thought their useful life would be.

We’re joking, but yesterday as I was pulling weeds from my garden in prep of spring planting, it occurred to me that if Spirit or Opportunity found a SINGLE blade of grass or weed on the red planet, the scientists and engineers here on earth would have strokes!!! :-)
It’s all about perspective, isn’t it?

If I’m going shopping at Walmart on Mars, by golly, I want to go to a Mackie-D’s afterwards with FULL service, not just those little microwaved burger joints in Wally World! :-)

These things were amazing. If these were on Earth the drone-builders union would be up in arms, demanding they be forced to shut down on time so they can keep the factories open!
lol.

Voyager 1 and 2 mission status is reported weekly
here. You're thinking of the Pioneer missions that were finally ended a few years ago.
