Endorsement of McCain alienates Palin supporters
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 2010-01-26 | Jay Bookman

Posted on 01/26/2010 2:17:50 PM PST by rabscuttle385

Sen. John McCain, the man who brought Sarah Palin to national prominence, is being challenged for re-election in the GOP primary by former U.S. Rep. J.D. Hayworth. Palin recently announced that she plans to travel to Arizona to campaign on McCain’s behalf, but posters on her Facebook page are not at all happy with their Sarah:

“Sarah, it was fun, but now you are done.”

“Sarah, your support of McCain shows bad judgment and brings into question the validity of your words. You can forget any political ambition if you support Amnesty – which John McCain does. Conservatives don’t forget.”

“You do know Senator McCain is a PROGRESSIVE? It is very disappointing that you are campaigning for him instead of J.D. Hayworth. McCain needs to go!”

“Sorry to hear that you are supporting McCain. Up to now, I thought you were part of the solution, but you’ve shown yourself to be part of the problem.”

“McCain!? Are you kidding me? Time to pick a side, Sarah– Are you with the people, or against them?”

“I agree with those who advise you not to campaign for Senator McCain. He really doesn’t represent the views of grassroot conservatives. He represents those in the GOP who have too often been willing to compromise on principle, or even worse, have failed to really understand basic conservative principles.”

“McCain used Palin like a cheap tool to keep from getting beat worse than Reagan did to Mondale. His staff mocked her and showed no respect. Now McCain is using her again like a cheap tool and this time she is willingly doing it under the guise of loyalty. As long as McCain is the face of the GOP, conservatives are irrelevant. Palin is playing politics and this goes against what she “supposedly” represents. She helps elect McCain, she’s done.”

“I respect your loyalty to McCain, Sarah, but he really is using you. You need to do what you are obligated to do for him, and then run as far away from him as possible. He’s widely despised in the Conservative movement, and you’ll be hurting yourself badly with your support base if you do more than offer your token support or speak on his behalf.”

“McCain is not a commonsense candidate. If you support him your future as a conservative candidate is over.”

“Another day ~ another appeal to our girl from Wasilla: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not follow through with your plan to campaign for John McCain. In the insightful words of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman: “Big mistake. Big. Huge.” To do so will destroy your credibility, have your enemies carping: “I told you so,” and leave your fans devastated.”

That’s just a small sampling of some 2,500 comments, and I have to admit to being surprised by the vehemence and near-unanimity of that sentiment. It makes me think that McCain might eventually have real trouble in the Arizona primary.

Yet another Bircher, Ron Paul thread, what do you know.

It’s nice to see all those who have decided to throw in their lot with 0bama, Axelrod, Rahm, Plouffe, Carville, the DNC, the DSCC, and the DCCC, all of who are attacking Palin on a regular basis. Now we know your true colors.

One of these days, he'll poll over 1%. I just know it.

Palin won’t even run. She has seen her polls on President (cant even get Republicans to support her) and now she was outed as a McCain RINO. She is smarter than her cult-members.

Now that Hayworth has thrown his hat into the ring, and McQueeg has stated his intent to discredit him, let's hope Sarah reconsiders.

If not, she may well be a footnote.

RP will never poll even 2%. And his worshipers will prostrate themselves before his awesome proclamations of 9/11 being America's fault.

His "worshiper" on this thread better get used to it. But then, he is a loser too isn't he? Don't you wonder what his altar looks like?

If she quit to take on a more important task then what she did was a good thing.

There is no sign of that. She quit because things got too hot.

You won’t get her to run by whining about Ron Paul. She would have to interview again and they wouldnt ask her about Ron Paul (no one but you cares about him.) They will ask her about McCain.

The anti conservative Bob J's near opus

Bob J has raised interesting and valid points.

Unfortunately, SOME (but not all) Palin supporters--not necessarily any of y'all--are sticking their fingers in their ears, closing their eyes, and yelling "nyah! nyah! not true!," figuratively speaking.

When one gives aid and comfort to the enemy, usually one is thus considered a traitor, or at least, one's loyalty to principles and to the cause is generally questioned.

Remember, blind loyalty in the face of facts makes one naught but a mere follower, rather than a leader or at least a competent manager, two qualities that are becoming of a "good" President and "chief executive officer" of the United States.

Now, if she is seeking ultimately to run for further public office, then she is either blindly loyal to McCain, actually agrees with him, and/or is just being a shrewd and cunning politician. As a holder of conservatarian beliefs, I believe that none of the three cases work out to her advantage; our elected officials should not be merely power-hungry and ambitious people but humble servants and citizens who step up to serve their fellow Americans because it is the right thing to do.

However, if she is not seeking ultimately to run for further public office but rather seeking to promote the conservative cause, supporting a man who has willfully dealt immense and horrific damage to the conservative cause in his twenty odd years spent here in the Federal district is nonsensical, to say the least.

Watching the tortured and hypocritical defenses that SOME Palin supporters--not necessarily any of y'all--put up is somewhat comical but just plain sad, especially considering that SOME of them were so quick to rush to attack one Mark Sanford for going "hiking in the Appalachians" last year. (Nevermind the fact that infidelity in marriage, though disgusting, is not necessarily an indicator of "bad" future political performance; case in point was one Benjamin Franklin, who was a notorious womanizer abroad and yet managed to serve the United States capably and competently at the same time.) Hold her to the same standard as every other political celebrity (yes, if DeMint endorses Romney again, I will be among the first to publicly repudiate him).

Palin’s self-sabotage has nothing to do with Ron Paul (and for the record, nothing to do with Mitt Romney, either).

Quit pissing and telling me it’s raining, will ya?
