TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Former Florida legislator Marco Rubio has closed the gap in the race for the state's Republican U.S. Senate nomination and is in a virtual dead heat with Gov. Charlie Crist, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Rubio, a lawyer who served as Speaker of the House, was once considered a long shot against Crist, who has widespread name recognition and a significant fundraising lead. But with Florida's primary seven months away, Rubio was favored by 47 percent compared with 44 percent who preferred Crist — statistically a tie in the Quinnipiac University poll that has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8

Crist is going down. Now is the time to put the financial nail in his political coffin.

Crist should consider dropping out and endorsing Rubio for the good of the party.

Doesn’t look like a tie to me. The momentum’s moving in the right direction.

And if the numbers were reversed?

“Crist leads Rubio by 3 in new poll”

“Crist should consider dropping out and endorsing Rubio for the good of the party.”

He’ll never do that. He still entertains delusions of winning that senate seat.

Right. Brown and Coakley were tied up until election day, then Brown won with 5%.

What Crist should do is run for a House seat against a Democrat. There are 9 other Democrats in the House from Florida that deserve a challenge. He’s got the money and he’d be able to save face. On the other hand maybe it’d be better if he just retired.

I could use some help.

I would like to donate money to truly conservative candidates running for the house or senate regardless of the State they are in, but don't have the time to fully research each one. Is there a good source to go to where someone has done this? I stopped trusting the GOP some time ago when they were putting forward RINOs.

Any suggestions?

Hope and pray that Rubio defeats Crist.

Crist is a quintessential RINO - the man who helped deliver John McCain the nomination and thus, place the Marxist Muslim in the Oval Office. He must be forced to find a career somewhere more appropriate - maybe in public sanitation.

The GOP NEEDS a highly visible conservative Hispanic and Rubio may very well be Presidential Material.

Please let it be so...getting rid of McVain would be huge. He is nothing more than a DemocRAT Lite in Republican clothing. McCain is nothing but an anti-conservative backstabber.

Please, please let it be so.
