Obamacare Is Dead and Here's Why [Obamacare Ongoing Thread]
Town Hall ^ | 1-26-10 | Robert A. Levy

As the Massachusetts blame game unfolds, the president’s unpopular health bill leads the list. But the substantive provisions of the bill were just part of the problem. Perhaps more important, voters were appalled by how the deal unfolded.

Consider the pre-election giveaway to the labor unions. Negotiators agreed to exempt union contracts until 2018 from the tax on so-called Cadillac health-insurance plans. That backroom bargain not only outraged the voters, it also violated the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution, requiring the federal government to extend equal protection of the laws to all U.S. persons. Of course, not all voters understood the constitutional nuances, but they sensed that something was very wrong; and they reacted.

I have been disturbed by the socialists for years, ever since I learned many members of Congress 'openly' joined the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America). Several years ago, the names were published on the DSA site. (since removed of course) Please post any info you have, many of you have been on this issue for many years, & if we can store it all on one thread, we have our FreeRepublic Warehouse on the enemies of the state. How DO we combat this, when it's coming at us from every angle? When the people have been asleep for decades. Please post anything you have found or accumulated. Also choose a dictator these people follow, of particular interest, those in D.C. who have been quoted with their adulation of one.

getting confusing; now this:

Update 3-20, 4:33 PM: OK, this explains it: President Obama is issuing an Executive Order that will prohibit federal money from being used for abortions under this bill. What is likely happening is that the President has come up with something that’s enough to satisfy some members of the Stupak group and get the bill over the line.

Clyburn: Abortion executive order in the works

House Majority Whip James Clyburn is going to give members a few hours to review the draft language of an executive order on abortion before he gets back to whipping them. The order is still being drafted and has not yet been circulated.

“I’m sure hopeful,” Clyburn said, of the order’s ability to pickup votes. “I understand the language is being read by various people.”

He says he doesn’t know whether the order will satisfy pro-life Democrats, “but we’re going to be taking a measure of that within the next couple of hours to make sure.”

He said he hasn’t read the proposed executive order.

“It seems to me if an executive order is sufficient to restart stem cell research, it ought to be sufficient here,” he said.

Asked whether he’s got the votes, Clyburn said, “We’re getting there. That’s all I’ll I’m ever going to say until we get it passed.”

They (Democrats) are promising to leave their party if this monstrosity passes. AND work to bring the Dem’s down. Good post. They are promising, each day, to highlight Dem’s to bring down and it looks like they’ve already started with Rep. Louise Slaughter.

Thank you so much, MM - I was worried about why you weren’t able to make it.

I wish I could have gone but driving 3,000 miles (in a horrible old cargo van with a metal floor) would have taken too long. Actually would have arrived dead!

Does anyone believe this? I damn sure don’t.

Speaker’s lobby:

Health Care Protesters Hurl Verbal Epithets At African American LawmakersChad Pergram |

Thousands health care reform opponents descended on Capitol Hill Sunday to rally against Sunday’s major vote on the package.

But some of the protesters targeted a handful of African American Members of Congress and one gay lawmaker as they walked from the House office buildings to the Capitol to vote.

Reps. John Lewis (D-GA) and Andre Carson (D-IN), both members of the Congressional Black Caucus, say that a group of protesters hollered at them and called them the N-word.

“They were just shouting. Harassing,” Lewis said. “People being downright mean.”

Lewis was one of the most pivotal figures of the civil rights struggle. He spoke alongside Dr. Martin Luther King at the Lincoln Memorial during the “I Have a Dream” speech. And Alabama State Police fractured the Congressman’s skull as he led a march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge on what became known as “Bloody Sunday” in 1965.

“It’s okay, I’ve faced this before,” said Lewis of Saturday’s incident. “I haven’t heard anything like this in 40, 45 years. Since the march to Selma, really.”

Andre Carson is one of only two Muslims in Congress and was born nine years after Bloody Sunday. Carson conceded he wasn’t used to hearing such epithets.

“The beauty is that I was walking with a good sage who had been there before,” Carson said, who with Lewis at the time.

First elected in 1970, Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) is one of the founding members of the Congressional Black Caucus.

“You don’t see any black folks in these groups,” said Rangel. “Ever, ever, ever, ever, ever.”

Rangel suggested that some of the protesters knew Lewis’s story and deliberately went after him.

“They knew what he represented,” he said.

Fellow CBC member Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) said nothing would surprise him from some of the bands of health care protesters.

“I have never heard anyone campaign for their freedom to be uninsured. I’ve never heard anyone campaign against Medicare,” said Scott. “That’s what you’re dealing with.”

NO!!!

re: Clyburn Fuming Over ‘Shocking,’ Allegedly Racial Comments of Tea-Party Protesters [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

Clyburn owes those protesters some more specific allegations. I spent a few hours with them today and saw a very different picture. There are nuts and racists in a lot of crowds, but the signs and their conversations and their chants today have largely (actually, I saw zero racism and exactly one “long form” birth certificate sign) covered these things up extremely well if Clyburn has their number.

Stephen Joseph “Steve” Scalise (born October 6, 1965) is a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from Louisiana’s 1st congressional district.[2][3] Previous to his Congressional service Scalise served in the Louisiana State Senate for five months in 2008 and the Louisiana House for the preceding twelve years. His congressional seat was vacated by Bobby Jindal, who was elected Governor of Louisiana. On November 4, 2008, Scalise handily defeated Democratic challenger Jim Harlan

Softspokenly kicked arse! He said the new jobs bill, creates thousands of jobs...for IRS! lmao

Our promise to America

This is a promise we want all of you out there to hold us to. It is a promise we are making to America, the country we love more than anything else in the world…a place we love more than anything we own, anyone we know, more than ourselves.

If it truly happens, if Democrats truly do ram through Healthcare Rationing this weekend, that will be it for us and the Democrat party. We will, as of the moment they enact their takedown of America, become officially not only Independents, but we’ll brand ourselves firmly as Resistance.

It will become our solid, daily goal to take down the DNC, destroy it, and do unto it what Rome did to Carthage.

We will do this by committing to three primary goals:

(1) Exposing and destroying ACORN in all its forms.

(2) Investigating and exposing every corrupt bargain and backroom deal Democrats engaged in to ram through Healthcare Rationing

(3) Taking down the Democrats’ fundraising machine and making life an absolute living Hell for all wealthy people who fund the DNC and its Leftist candidates. We will feature a different Leftist every day, and encourage as many people as possible to direct their ire at the wealthy men, women, and firms who fundraise to keep these Marxists in office.

We will, in fact, build a coast to coast operation to achieve this, making it our mission to cripple the DNC’s revenue stream.

Rep Gingrey: Not Sure There Will be a Vote Tomorrow Lauren Torlone |
Georgia Congressman Phil Gingrey, who chairs the GOP Doctors Caucus, tells Fox News that he’s “not sure there will even be a vote tomorrow.” As part of Fox News’ continuing health care coverage, Gingrey made an appearance on the channel earlier today, where he said, “Nancy Pelosi is not going to bring the vote to the floor if she doesn’t have those 216 votes. And nobody wants to be that deciding vote.”

Wow! Chico, CA in Da House!

Walter William Herger, Jr. (born May 20, 1945), American politician, has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1987, representing the California’s 2nd congressional district. The second district is physically large. The major cities are Chico, Redding and Red Bluff. Congressman Herger was born in Yuba City, California, and graduated from American River College with an Associate of Arts. He also attended California State University, Sacramento for a year. He grew up on his family’s 200-acre (0.81 km2) cattle ranch and plum farm in the northern California town of Rio Oso (between Yuba City and Sacramento). He also worked in the family’s oil and gas exploration business.[1]

“I hope this bill doesn’t pass, another softspoken man with a lisp -endearing- who’s stating facts emphatically how the people don’t want this
