NASA: 2009 second warmest year on record

According to NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), last year was tied for the second warmest year on record after 2005, the warmest year on record. If just looking at the southern hemisphere, however, 2009 proved the warmest yet recorded since record-taking began in 1880. Overall 2009 tied a total of five other years—four from the 2000s—for the second warmest on record. But, researchers say what is most important was that the past decade, from January 1st 2000 to December 31st 2009, proved the warmest on record.

"There's always interest in the annual temperature numbers and a given year's ranking, but the ranking often misses the point," James Hansen, GISS director, said in a press release. "There's substantial year-to-year variability of global temperature caused by the tropical El Nino-La Nina cycle. When we average temperature over five or ten years to minimize that variability, we find global warming is continuing unabated."

The year before last, 2008, was the coolest year of the 2000s due to a strong La Nina event that cooled the tropical Pacific Ocean, however warm temperatures made a comeback last year as the La Nina event fell back. Even an unseasonably cool December in North America did little to stem the overall warming trend in 2009.

This is Dr. James Hansen who is tied into the Anthropogenic Global Warming Crowd. He has presented, and been caught at, inaccurate and fraudulent data multiple times. Last time he blamed the “contractor” but he is the one that is charged with oversight so the buck is supposed to stop with him. For some reason NASA wont fire him. His models ignore this thing called water vapor which is 99% of the effect called greenhouse gases. He also uses data from urban weather stations, as does NOAA, that don't meet the appropriate conditions called for by the NOAA standards. Many are too near Air Conditioning outlets to give reliable data yet these are used while rural stations are dropped.

Every successive year is always the hottest year on record with him and he refuses to correct his statements even when his data is shown to be in error. 1934 is the hottest year in the last century with 1998 being second. If he were to use the corrected data there would only be 2006 in the top ten data with the decade (1931-1940) having the greatest number of years in the top ten warmest over the last century. My educational background includes Astronomy with a B.S. in Mathematics, and a Masters in Space Systems. I have studied the AGW premise and it is full of hot air but little to no science.

It should raise a red flag anytime a scientist doesn't present his data in a report and make it so other scientists can take that data and see if they come to the same conclusion. Hansen is a political hack. By the way, the first decade of the 21st century is not yet complete it goes from 2001 to 2010. When Christ was born it was 1 Ano Domini, 1 AD, 1 year of our lord, therefore the first decade ended with year 10 AD. This is a revisionist practicing his revisionism every step of the way. AGW is not Science it is a hoax designed to control populations use of energy and therefore their standard of living.

You shouldn’t believe certain scientists anymore.

I don’t use the term “believe” anymore myself.
I use “think” or “trust” and a healthy dose of scepticism.

I trust science because it is the very best tool we have to explain the world around us.
I do not trust certain scientists and reamin highly sceptical of many theorys. As scientific process demands of any theory.

Trust is earned. I do, long term think that the scientific process if allowed to follow due course will prevail with the facts of AGW. Already I think that has begun.

Yeah, I saw that too. At least the end of the program. They are blaming the freezing on global warming!

Last year was the coolest summer we’ve had in a very long time. I am VERY MUCH NOT a sun worshiper. I can’t stand high temps. Last summer I spent more time outside in the sunshine than I have in years. I even did a lot of gardening. If this year is as cool as last year, I’m going to be loving it! I’m already planning my garden!

Actually what they were saying was an ice-age is inevitable. It’s a natural cycle. The politics of climate have no control. It was a revealing truth about what we are currently unlocking. The most interesting part was the Sahara sands being excavated from the Atlantic basin.

I read a report a month ago that inferred that HASA’s own satellite data for 2009 showed the earth’s atmosphere was cooler from 10,000 - 80,000 ft. by 0.4ºC. Also, the same report mentioned that analysis of temp data from non-urban, isolated areas exclusively showed lower average global temps for the year.

A religious fanatic can not allow himself to see truth even in the face of overwhelming evidence. To do so would be to admit they were fools all along.

The warmers are like mohammedans, willing to martyr themselves rather than acknowledge the lie they have invested so much of themselves in. In the end they (or their career) dies for nothing more than easily avoided self deception.

Hansen is the meteorological equivalent of a suicide bomber.
