With the nation still mired in a deep recession that has millions of Americans experiencing economic ruin, the Obama administration marked Barack Obama's one-year anniversary as president by displaying a photograph of First Lady Michelle Obama wearing a $2,763 designer coat as the 'White House photo of the day' on the front page of WhiteHouse.gov.

Nola Weinstein, Fashion Editor for Glam.com noted that Michelle Obama was wearing a "mat lurex Moschino coat with a matching cap sleeve dress from the brand's Pre-Spring 2010 collection."
Sharon Haver at FocusOnStyle.com gushed over the outfit, calling it "very Camelot-ish".
Haver noted that Moschino sent out a copy of the White House photo with the bragging caption:
Moschino is pleased to announce that First Lady Michelle Obama wore a mat lurex Moschino coat with a matching cap sleeve dress while celebrating the year anniversary of the inauguration at the White House.

The Obama's are not shy about lavishly spending exhorbitant amounts money on themselves in the midst of the worst recession since the Great Depression.
The First Couple took a ten-day Hawaii vacation over Christmas and New Year's where they stayed at a $4000 per day $8.9 million estate. Michelle Obama was photographed wearing $635 per pair shoes while out for dinner in Hawaii.
A recent study of five pairs of footwear worn by Michelle Obama shows an average price of $700 per pair.
It could not be readily determined how much the matching dress for the $2763 Moschino coat is selling for.
A woman lucky enough to have a job in this economy that pays the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour would have to work nearly 380 hours without taxes withheld to be able to afford Michelle Obama's Moschino coat seen on the front page of the White House Web site as the Obama's photo of the day.

You do know that fashion lines regularly give away their clothes for free to prominent women, just so that they will be photographed wearing them? It’s free advertising for the fashion house.
Especially those from a pre-launch collection - they give the clothes for free so that there will be a “buzz” created about the items.
It’s completely common in the fashion industry. The women who wear all that glam and glitz on the red carpets don’t PAY for those items unless they are going to keep them. The photos popping is enough to get the couture lines to give them for nothing.
Mrs. Obama is certainly famous enough, and photographed enough, to get made this kind of offer.
Maybe someone should ask the press secretary if this is the case, or if she really IS spending that much on a coat.
Please don’t compare M/Obama’s coat with donation paid by taxpayer’s. Doesnt matter what price tag is on Michelle Obama’s clothing, it doesn’t make a LADY. To be a real lady is something you can’t buy at any price.

If you can stomach this guy long enough perhaps your chosen career will be carefully, and thoughfully, selected for smearing on national television.

I could only watch for 5 minutes — in that time only ONE black guy came thru the line and he was slated to appear at some conference later (where Meeshell said she’d see him).
I wonder what the response would’ve been by any regular old (non-handpicked) tourists? Had I been in that line and seen this FLOTUS lurking ahead, I’d have turned around and headed back out the door!
The dog, however, is cute and well trained.

You need to watch that video (link posted earlier) — very long............and lots of hand-picked ‘groups’ of white people — seniors, students, etc. -— It must’ve killed old Meeshell to have to greet them nicely; of course, she knew she was on camera....
She looks as tall as Barry. Her 11 year-old is already over 5’7”.
Strangely, Michelle looks slimmer than any of the general populace, even in a loose fitting coat!!
Once before, I did a Google search and found that the first family pays for their own clothing. I do not know if they are allowed to receive gifts or clothing on loan from current famous designers.
What’s the big fuss.....It’s just her house coat....She even has her house slippers on....;~)
