"When Ted Kennedy died Massachusetts officials could have held the special election immediately. If they had held it then Martha would have won, hands down. Instead they changed the law (yet again)and appointed an old Kennedy hack so he could hold the seat and vote for ObamaCare"

To be factual, they are abiding by the special election timeline the law states (which is good, because it gives people a chance to get to know the candidates a bit - and the more people see of Martha, the less they realize they like her). Mass DID NOT change the law again (the very law they made to keep a then potential national Senate appointment from a Repub Gov...what actually happened is the Dem Gov overrode that now suddenly inconvenient law to put said interim hack in for the healthcare vote.

Governor Deval Patrick continued today to press for a change to state law to allow him to appoint an interim replacement for Senator Edward M. Kennedy as he announced that a special election for the seat will be held on Jan. 19. "
