Hati is well within the range of any number of US airbases. We do not need the carrier there. It just a massive photo op exercise on the part of 0 regime. After excahnging in the most reckless sort of demagoguery about Katrina, they have to have a visible presence of something on the scene to show “the Administration is responding” for their media allies to propagandize about.

Of the two, Bush was far more competent a leader in response to the crises then O has been. Bush got to work and made things happen without appearing on the TV every 5 minutes to tell us what he was doing. 0 is grandstanding for the public but has done nothing to kick the snot out of the bureaucracy and actually getting things done. Bush focused on achievements and lost the PR fight over Katrina, 0 is focusing on the PR fight and letting the Haitian people go hang.

Absolutely John, but IMHO, after spending five years in Haiti in the 80's working shoulder to shoulder with the poorest citizens of the hemishpere I am really pissed at how little respect the Joker has for life.

It's criminal how he is letting thousands die for the lack of a simple air lift supported by a minimum of troops.

Anyone with any managerial experience at all could figure this one out.

But as you say the event always was political and always will be.

In addition there is no telling what the chaos he has created now holds for other events now going on in the background while the nations' attention is otherwise focused.

We absolutgely do need the carrier there. Aircraft carriers have water desalination plants that can generate many thousands of gallons of fresh water each day. We did it during the tsunami relief and it is what is needed desperately in Haiti.

It’s amazing how I heard last night the PResident being physically there can hamper efforts because of the security involved and such.

Why didn’t we hear that with Katrina?

It is a big pain in the butt to deal with having the President or celebrities around while trying to deal with these things.
