WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 10, 2010) On Christmas Day, a Nigerian with alleged ties to al Qaida attempted to detonate a bomb on board a Detroit-bound airliner. For many reasons, this attack disturbs me. Despite all that our law enforcement, intelligence, and policy communities have done to keep Americans safe, this incident demonstrates that weaknesses still exist in our global strategy to protect the American people against terrorism. I understand that there were failures across the government and the international community that quite frankly, eight years after the attacks on 9-11, should not have happened.

Skelton says:
“a Nigerian with alleged ties to al Qaida”
Sounds like racial profiling. Skelton is a racist.
Yes, Ike Skelton is right. The failed attack should be a wake-up call. It’s time to recognized that the Obama administration is full of incompetent morons who are incapable of ensuring our national security. They have to go from Michelle and Barack right down to the dog.
So the shoe bomber wasn’t a wakeup call? BTW - was that guy tried in civil court?
NO, it was NOT a warning. It was a real terrorist attack. It was the result of forgetting and/or ignoring the real warning and lessons of 911.
On Christmas day, 300 people missed their deaths by a fluke. Had the fused, smoking and detonated bomb gone off as intended, the body parts of 300 people would have been tossed into the skies.
Blood and human guts would have filled the air around the planes wreckage.
Innocent and unsuspecting people would have been burned alive and some may have even experienced the horror of their tragic end, if only for seconds.
Fathers and mothers would have never returned home. Brothers, sisters, children and loved ones would have never seen another moment of this life.
Pain and suffering for those they left behind would never really end.... it never does.
Our country would have gone into shock. Our financial system may have crashed even more than it already has.
NO... this was no damn warning... it was a clear FAILURE of Obama, and yet another demonstration that he puts politics above the importance of our security.....
Obama nearly killed those folks, period.
Skelton has never held a private sector job in his entire life.
He is in his eighties, he can retire now.
I agree with all that you said, but I want to point this out.
Yes, “the shoe bomber happened under Bush”, but then for 7 years, a successful attack did not take place on our soil. So far, there have been 3 terrorist attacks on our soil under Obama and his cowardious tribe. There will no doubt be more.
It shows....
And for the next few weeks, we'd be hearing about fuel line malfunctions, faulty pitot tubes, bird strikes, poor maintenance practices, etc., along with the constant media echo 'no evidence of terrorism'.
