While it's a common misunderstanding that we launch automatically at DefCon 1, we don't. Not until we receive positive command to do so.

You’re right, that’s why I said usually. I spent a career in missiles, ground and airborne EA ops and command/control. I was also a crew instructor and evaluator. Never received a critical error or failed an eval.
