no thats the japanese word for it they just started calling it that to be politically correct, in english and in the western hemisphere its a tidal wave.

"Tidal wave" has always been an incorrect term to describe a wave generated by an earthquake since it has nothing to do with tides. Here is a picture of a tidal wave (also known as a tidal bore) that is a wave created by tidal forces:
