Record freeze in Florida
Jan 10, 2010

MIAMI - A SHARP Arctic front sweeping the United States brought unusual snow to many of the deep southern states on Saturday, and leaving normally balmy Florida shivering from record icy lows.

At least nine deaths were blamed on the freezing snap that blanketed much of the central part of the country this week, CNN said.

In sub-tropical Florida, Key West - the southernmost point in the continental United States - saw it's coldest day in 112 years, with a low of 47 degrees Fahrenheit (8.3 degrees Celsius).

The cold air was expected to settle over the state through the weekend with freezing temperatures set to remain until Monday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) also issued severe wind chill alerts for the Midwest, warning that even limited exposure to the cold could cause frostbite or hypothermia.

The Arctic air mass across the central states was bringing wind chills below minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit (-28 degrees Celsius) as officials said the conditions could mean frostbite in less than 30 minutes. -- AFP

Meanwhile, in the SF Bay Area, it’s another loony “Spare the Air” Day and it is illegal to heat our house with firewood.

What a nightmare. So we could be rolling into an Ice Age where the dominant governing faction will prevent us from keeping warm. Total lunacy. And this governing faction has a mental dysfunction which almost never permits them to admit they were wrong. "The system worked". Those of us who still have our sanity will apparently need space ships and will need to locate another habitable planet ASAP.

As a matter of fact, when my daughter was in Peru about twenty years ago, she said she saw several paintings of the Last Supper in Catholic churches decorated by Indians that portrayed Jesus and His disciples eating iguanas.

Temperatures have plunged as low as the 20s in recent days, forcing people used to wearing flip-flops year-round to put on earmuffs.

They must be southern crackers not used to the cold, we here in Michigan put on boots..........ear muffs ain't gonna keep your feet warm.

If the EPA pushes through that carbon tax, I’m just waiting until the environmental police start coming around here in Vermont to tax our wood stoves.

They just changed the weather prediction for our part of Vermont. It’s due to go down to around 17 below tonight—probably 20 below. My wood and pellet stoves are cranking, and I’m afraid the oil furnace as well.

Speaking of the Bay Area, from the San Francisco Chronicle, videos of snow in Florida.

There's snow in florida? Snow fall in Orlando, Florida

Second video shows a Floridian with frost or snow on her car. Apparently the first time she ever saw it. Third video of a first ever snowball fight for some kids. THey discover that snow is cold. First video removed.

"Any word on the status of the even less cute n’ cuddly Burmese Pythons?"

Yes, what of the Burmese Pythons? They just came to this country to make a better life for themselves. Where is their bailout money? Does Obama look down on them because they aren't naturalized snakes? Does the Dim Party umbrella not cover the Burmese?

Are you telling me the entire florida orange grove industry is a total loss? Complete restart from scratch? No surviving trees?

Snow, sleet reported in Tampa Bay area

For the first time in more than two decades a mixture of sleet and snow fell in the Tampa Bay area this morning. The sleet and snow came during the early morning hours as an arctic air mass began to push through the region. Temperatures recorded at Tampa International Airport this morning also matched a record low of 36 degrees recorded in 1969.

“What? Agore is on holiday there?

LOL! You are right on. Everytime the GW crowd schedules meetings or The Goricle opens his mouth, the temperatures plummet.

My guess right now, watched the weather over Florida for quite a while last night while doing Taxes, the northern range of Orange Growing just moved south some. And the worse of the cold is yet to come. Some Accuweather forecasters stated that this Arctic Blast will eventually push very Cold Temps down to Cuba and further south. Miami gets below 32 tonight.

Arctic Blast Slams Sunshine State

Farmers Prepare For Overnight Freeze

Farmers are gearing up for frigid conditions overnight Saturday.

Citrus growers in Vero Beach expect to see temperatures in the upper 20s, with wind chills in the teens.

Lewis Schacht, of Schacht Groves, said he hopes the weather doesn't do permanent damage the crops. He said he'll have crews out all night trying to protect them.

Should the crops succumb to the cold, grocery stores around the country could see elevated citrus and juice prices.
