Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) apologized today for referring to President Barack Obama as "light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect" in private conversations during the 2008 presidential campaign.
"I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words," said Reid in a statement. "I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments."
The Senate Majority Leader was officially neutral in the primary fight between Obama and then Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.). Reid's remarks about Obama were revealed in "Game Change", a book detailing the 2008 race penned by Time's Mark Halperin and New York magazine's John Heilemann.
Reid's apology comes on the same day that a new poll conducted by the Las Vegas Review Journal showed him facing an uphill fight for re-election in 2010. Reid trailed former state Republican party chairwoman Sue Lowden by a 50 percent to 40 percent margin and was behind businessman Danny Tarkanian (R) 49 percent to 41 percent.
Only one in three voters viewed Reid favorably while 52 percent saw him in an unfavorable light in the poll.

Apparently, Reid thinks that light-skin African-Americans are worth more in the eyes of God than darker ones. Unbelievable.
Talk like that could land Harry as the next Dem VP.
Since he is a lib: No Harm, No Foul
From Wikapedia:
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is one of the oldest and most influential civil rights organizations in the United States.(snip)
Its name, retained in accord with tradition, is one of the last surviving uses of the term "colored people". This is now generally viewed as dated and derogatory. In the historical context of the NAACP, however, the term is not considered offensive.
Excellent post, Miss Didi!
Yup.
Actually, that’s what the representative in the district adjacent to mine does. Alcee “Buckwheat” Hastings (Idiot, Florida) speaks “white” when addressing the press or a predominantly white audience. Then he speaks like a jive-ass mo-fo when addressing his constituents. I’ve seen it happen. You can also hear it on the phone taps that were used to impeach and convict him as a disgraced federal judge (yet he’s re-elected without serious opposition).
Thanks, onyx...thanks to Matt Drudge!
If Sheets Byrd wasn’t forced to resign for saying the “n-word” twice on a cable news program, then I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for Hairy Greed to resign.
I might have to buy this book and I didn’t want to! LOL.
Reid said he has been a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Obama and has throughout his career worked to promote adversity in his home state of Nevada and in the Senate.
unintentional truth alert.
Admitted cocaine and pot user, Barack 0bama, is clean, articulate, light-skinned and doesn’t speak in the negro dialect unless he wants to. What’s not to like? Even a pasty-faced northeastern liberal could vote for him. - DNC talking points memo circa 2007
Prisons are full of people like that.Oh,and the DNC too...
Harry only used demeaning "minstrel show" racial stereotypes to refer to a black, sitting U.S. Senator and Presidential candidate.
It's not like he did anything that rises to the level of a resigning offense! You know, really bad stuff, like uttering a nonsense word, "macaca," or referring favorably to an inconsequential political contest and party from the 1940's!
He meant to say "thin skinned".
If you’re a dem and/or African American, the rules are different.
"Of course not" is the answer to both questions. Well put.
