Greeter Terminated For 'Gross Misconduct'

PALM BAY, Fla. --
A Walmart greeter who was shown on video getting punched by a customer has been fired.

Ed Bauman, 69, said the act of defending himself cost him his job.

Bauman went into Walmart hoping to get back to work for the first time since police said he was punched by a customer. Instead, Bauman said he was fired. His termination notice called the incident an act of "gross misconduct" and accused Bauman of fighting with a customer.

"They told me I did a good job of defending myself," said Bauman. "Then they turned around and fired me. I guess they just wanted me to stand there and get beaten."

I know. To me they are creating unsafe situations with that stance. If someone gets really hurt they’re going to pay alot of money for that policy.

There is something about a struggle and the aftermath they are worried about.

They are concerned that the illegal might return armed, looking for you and shoot up the place. It is not particularly fair, but it is smart to have you leave.

BAck when this was first posted I said the walmarter was aggressive and attcked the customer inside the store.

I also said I would fire the greeter.

I guess Wally World sees it the same way.

The greeter is lucky the asshat customer did not have a knife/gun and a bad day.

You are wrong
Video shows-—>>
The black kid sailed out of the store and refused to show the receipt and buzzer went off
The greeter walked out and was writing down his license plate number on his clipboard
Kid runs back and grabs clipboard
Blows are exchanged after that

The video at http://www.tcpalm.com/news/2009/dec/30/walmart-greeter-beating-palm-bay-was-self-defense-/ seems to show the kid walking out of the store carrying a clipboard and then it looks like he is doing something like he is trying to tear up papers on it.

Yes, I would say that is correct. This video does not show him taking the clipboard from the Wal-Mart employee, but maybe this is an edited verson not showing the first part.

I can certainly assume that what you said is exactly what happened - makes sense.

Thanks.

What’s worse is that the local prosecutor is pursuing felony assault charges against the former greeter....
