Britain has dropped to 25th place on a list of the best places in the world to live - behind countries such as the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Uruguay.
While France tops the poll for the fifth year running, the UK's climate, crime rate, cost of living, congested roads and overcrowded cities have pushed it even further down from last year's ranking at 20.
The Quality of Life Index, published by International Living magazine for the 30th year, says the French live life to the full, while Britons are over-worked.

I do think they have one of the best leaders they’ve had in a long time.
To his credit, Sarkozy sees through the Iranians and Obama. Now THAT’S transparency.
My son picked France. My buddy picked Australia. Each lived there for 6 months.
What, no african, asian or arab nations on the list? Must be racist./sarc

Kidnappings and ransom demands for high-profile business executives? In the US: it happens once in a great while. In France: kidnapping the boss has become just another labor negotiating tactic. Of course, US citizens are armed at a rather high rate, while French citizens are, well.. unless you consider female underarm hair a lethal weapon....
Gangs of unemployed Muslim "yutes" roaming the streets of every large city, and several times a year burning cars and smashing windows? France: check. America: well... not yet, anyway.
Finally, on the basis of whether a nation's people smell better or worse than their cheese: America wins, hands (and noses) down.
Sorry for the multiple posts.Must be my itchy trigger finger.
Please leave and we will move up if you agree with this. Maybe we could donate California to the Euro zone?
That be a racist list.
I lived in Europe and worked in 5 countries there for many years before coming to the U.S. This article is fundamentally incorrect. If France is #1, then why does the U.S. have more immigrants, both legal and illegal? As far as driving, Paris was one of the few cities I would not drive in due to congestion. In 1999, (the last year on record) the suicide rate in France was 26.1 per 100,000 while that same year in the U.S. it was 17.6 according to the World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/mental_health/prevention/suicide/suiciderates/en/)
Give me the good old U.S.A. any day.
A socialist nation run by radical Muslims and no right to keep and bear arms. Yep. Sure makes ME wanna move!
It you are a lefty and are planning to move there, dont forget your gasmask
I’m thinking lefties would love living in France. They are filled with self hatred and the French could treat and talk to them like dirt making the lefties feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It would be a win win situation all around.
America under DumBO or France under Sarkozy, not a hard choice.
I’ve been there. It’s not nice.
The times I was there, I was in small towns, I really liked it, and it bothered me (as an American chauvinist) that I had the perception that there was much to learn about the quality and pace of daily life, from the French.
For the people that can afford it, it must be nice to have a second home there.
Was this done before the “Hope and Change” Express took effect?
