Ok - just read the story at local liberal TV news - http://www.wral.com/business/story/6748382/
They did include the “behind closed doors” information - but only in the LAST paragraph - and ONLY in reference to how the Dems and Peloosi especially had reacted (defensively) to “claims” this final part of the process was going behind closed doors!
Here is the paragraph:
“Democrats reacted defensively to criticism that they are taking the final, most crucial stage of the debate behind closed doors, contending they’ve conducted a transparent process with hundreds of public meetings and legislation posted online. Republicans seized on a newly released letter from the head of the C-SPAN network calling on congressional leaders to open the final talks to the public, and cited Obama’s campaign trail pledge to do just that”
And here is what this report said Pelosi responded:
“Asked about that promise, Pelosi remarked, without elaboration, “There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail.”
I thought I had read here on FR the Pelosi reiterated that this has been the most transparent Congress ever!
Ha ha ha ha - guess even WRAL couldn’t stomach publishing THAT lie.
Wow! Did she really say that?
I found references to what you say, but no source for those words. I believe it was a question lobbed at her by a reporter recently. I did find these lies, though.
"There has never been a more open process for any legislation," Pelosi said at a press conference.
"We will do what is necessary to pass the bill," Pelosi said.
Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), assistant to the Speaker, said the healthcare bill had been "subjected to unprecedented level of public scrutiny."
After emerging victorious in the November 7, 2006 elections Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi pledged "to lead the most honest, the most open and the most ethical Congress in history."
As president, Obama said,
I will make it impossible for congressmen or lobbyists to slip pork-barrel projects or corporate welfare into laws when no one is looking because when I am president, meetings where laws are written will be more open to the public. No more secrecy.
In the inimitable words of Congressman Joe Wilson:
YOU LIE!!!
