AN ad by KFC Australia showing a man giving fried chicken to West Indies fans has been labelled racist in the US.
In the "cricket survival guide" ad, an Australian fan named Mick asks viewers "Need a tip when you're stuck in an awkward situation?" after being surrounded by cheering West Indies fans.
He then shares a bucket of KFC chicken with fans around him to calm the situation.
The video has caused a huge stir in the US after it was posted on YouTube. The ad has been seen by some in the US as a reference to racial stereotype that African Americans eat fried chicken.
User "ThunderCurls" posted the ad on the video sharing website with the title "Racist KFC advertisement?"
The description states "How do you survive a crowd of "awkward" black people? According to KFCs latest advertisement a bucket of fried chicken will do the trick".
The video has caused a lot of debate, attracting more than 200,000 views and 2000 comments.
KFC Australia has acknowledged that the ad could be perceived as racist. It said the ad had been "misinterpreted by a segment of people in the US" in a statement released this morning.
"It is a light-hearted reference to the West Indian cricket team," KFC said.
"The ad was reproduced online in the US without KFC's permission, where we are told a culturally-based stereotype exists, leading to the incorrect assertion of racism.

“When will this nonsense stop.”
When liberals are no longer liberals?
That's not "prejudice," it's just plain-old garden variety ignorance.
The not unexpected result when an entire ethnic class has never had any of their idiotic assumptions challenged due to fear of The Race Card.
Most blacks in America lack a functioning negative feedback mechanism, other than prison. And that doesn't even seem to work very well.
Hey - I don’t think any of those things about Italians. I do suspect you to use fancy sign language after traffic mishaps and some little part of me hopes you might look and sing like a young Dean Martin. Does that make me racist?
I used to eat Swanson’s too, the meatloaf was pretty good!
Yes, I liked that one too. I’m sure I ate all of them at one time or another. I think that’s what I survived on as a little kid. Well, I shouldn’t say that because I do remember my mom cooking a lot too. I wish there was some way to compare the taste of a Swanson’s meal back then to one now. Same with KFC. McDonald’s used to be really good too. The fries cooked in lard were the best.
You’ve noticed. White males are quite often portrayed as dumb, slothful, obese, rednecks lacking any redeeming attributes.
Yes, while I am not a male, it’s really irritating!
Yep... Reminds me of the confused libtards who refer to African blacks as "African Americans"...
I'm of Eastern European descent and everytime I see a fish stick commercial on TV I get offended.
Thanks,
Stan
Well, most all the black people I know eat fried chicken. Come to think of it, most all the Latinos I know eat fried chicken too. Oh yeah, most all the white people I know eat fried chicken. I guess we can stereotype all those groups as eating fried chicken. Most all the people I know from the middle east eat rotisserie roasted chicken. And it’s GOOD!
OH, wait. It doesn’t mean squat!
Does anyone know where I can get me one of those Obama lawn jockies?
I was joking of course, then found several on the web....
I’m gonna get me one.
None of your guys get it. It is the separation of dark meat and white meat. They are each neatly quarantined to their own little bin under the warming light. Then you are asked, white or dark. Then and only then are the two chicken races allowed to intermingle. I tell ya that is the worst kind of racism there is. (/sarc)
I have no problem with Scottish men or their kilts. In fact, I am the president of the local “Tartan TeePee inspectors” union. We always rise to the occasion to make sure that kilts are worn properly and that they are appreciated. ;-)
We used to love those dinners. My mom also had us convinced that pot pies were a delicacy. It was so special.
