But I cant buy the theory that he was born in Kenya and they faked his birth announcements in Hawaii.
This is false thinking. There is no need to believe that the announcements were "faked". The announcements in the paper merely state that a boy was born to a set of parents. There is no need to fake anything. If the grandparents want to ensure that Barry has full citizenship privileges without any undue hassle, they simply report the birth after the fact in accordance with Hawaii law, then the paper picks it up on its routine scan and prints the announcement. No conspiracy necessary, other than the grandparents wanted their grandchild to have American citizenship.

If the grandparents want to ensure that Barry has full citizenship privileges without any undue hassle Big "if" hanging out there. Why would it even been an issue in 1961? They were a well off family by all accounts, so what would it matter? His mother was a citizen and by most measures that would make him a citizen anyway.
Hanging a whole theory on an "if" that doesn't make sense for a birth announcement is a leap of faith I can't take when easier answers are available.

No conspiracy necessary, other than the grandparents wanted their grandchild to have American citizenship. Even if he were born in Kenya, as the child of a US citizen mother, he was entitled to naturalized citizenship under the immigration laws at the time. All his mom would have to do is fill out an application and show proof of her maternity and US citizenship. See my profile for the relevant citations of the law in effect at the time.
Now why would his grandparents risk a felony purjury conviction and fake his birth, when his mom could easily obtain US citizenship for him through perfectly legal means?
