A poor substitute for the usual thread.
WHAT!!!!????
Not sure what Carolyn has heard about JD’s run at McCain....I heard a couple of things that made me think that its more of a possibility than we thought earlier. Still nothing concrete, but my hopes we lifted slightly by the second-hand comment I heard on the radio. It wasn’t directly from JD, but one of his friends/hosts also on KFYI who might be in a position to know more.
Those feelings were confirmed on the CBS FTN Reporter's roundtable which was untypically sensical. They all know Obie's a lost puppy in the WH and don't expect him to succeed at implementing his agenda. Pretending we're not at war was one of the isssues specifically raised.
It could be Cheney is voicing the media's inner feelings, but they don't have the nerve to say it.
<<< ...the info went to the National Counterterrorism Center on November 20 where decision was made that info is not sufficient to revoke the visa.
The National Counterterrorism Center is a joint agency operation. It is not the State Department’s fault that the visa was not revoked. >>>
**********
It is however, somebody’s fault if an entity exists known as The National Counterterrorism Center, and the visa was not flagged or revoked by some authority in that “Center”.
Could it be that “joint agencies” just make failure to make decisions an operational option?
As altura said upthread, the 7-11 store knows immediately if Bank of America is happy with her account when she passes over her credit card.
I’m hearing more rumblings he may run, the AZ primary isn’t until August, so he has plenty of time to mount a good challenge... there is a lot of primaries in 2010 that come before us...
I think it’s looking more likely, but like I just said above,he has time to get in and really get attention since we don’t vote until August.

I couldn't get this image out of my head during church today. It could be used to help people overcome depression, because every time I thought of it, it made me smile! (I restrained the chuckle.)
Yes, they were outstanding.
Normally I try to report on FNS, but when Kristol and Brit started in...the comments were fast and furious. There was no way I could transcribe it, so I just listened.

Very interesting! Good for Senator DeMint to hold up this guy’s confirmation!
Never mind "fixing" things, if they ever get back in power, the GOP should just start repealing things, including departments and agencies....like the Dept of Education and HUD for starters.
You're too stupid to be on FR, you should join David Brooks and his ilk.
Clinton and Congress treated jihadists as a criminal problem and the killings escalated culminating on 9/11. Gorelick and her ilk, Clintonistas all, constructed walls between agencies making it almost impossible to detect attacks. Bush slowly unraveled all of that and almost immediately treated jihadists as they were meant to be treated , as unlawful combatants. Obama is now reversing all of that at a toriid clip.
Only the truly stupid or willfully blind can not see that.
They made a decision, just the wrong one.
I don’t think I’ll hold my breath on that wish... but right now I’d settle for us getting congress back and gaining back multiple seats in the senate.
No, probably me neither. But that could have been happening in the first Bush term, just like what is trying to happen with the RATs right now.
Of course they always say (whoever "they" is) that once you give something, you can't take it away...but then again, Obama & Co seems to have no problem taking away the Bush tax cuts.
I doubt after this series of democrat-debacles, that the public would be too hard to convince that the budget needs a good 50-year overhaul.
So who was the individual in the counter terrorism center who made that decision. I am not saying we need to blame this dept or that agency. I want individuals to be named, and if negligent, fired.
Bush was too trusting, he should have cleaned out all the rats nests at State, etc.... but when you look at history most departments in our government have been too top heavy and the little guys are afraid to put their careers in jeopardy to stand up....unless, of course, it’s a GOP administration they can damage; that makes you a hero in DC circles.
There is no way we could have repealed anything in the first Bush term. The first two years we had a 50-50 split after Jeffords defected, and anything needing passage like repealing the Dept. of Education would not have mustered enough votes to avoid a filabuster.
Even though we gained a majority in the Senate after the first two years, we still did not have a filibuster-proof majority, so anything like what you were suggesting would have been impossible, as the democrats (showcased and praised by the media) would have filibustered any effort to repeal favorite democrat programs.
Bush did the best he could with what he had. Some of the things people object to were horsetrades for continuing support of the war. By rights the democrats should be the ones who take the blame for holding national security hostage to their programs.
I suppose Bush could have gone on TV and explained this, but since the media very often refused to cover his speeches, and when they did always helpfully told us what he “really” meant, I don’t think it would have done any good.
How would I possibly know the name of the individual who made that decision? Yes, there should be accountability and consequences, but what can you expect when we have crooks running the government. We have a tax cheat as Treasury Secretary and Charlie Rangel running the House Ways and Means committee and folks like Dodd, Frank, Conrad, et. al. who are negligent and corrupt. Let’s go after them first before lynching a career government employee who made a decision based on whatever the facts were given to him/her.
Bush couldn't have "cleaned them out" because there is a law protecting non-political appointees from being fired. That's called the Civil Service Law.
Over the years, agencies like State, DOJ, and EPA have become increasingly liberal, because conservative employees tend to migrate to the private sector, while the liberals become more entrenched and move up higher in the chain, getting more authority and influence.
It is a problem any Republican president will face, and it is one that Reagan faced as well. The only way I can see solving this is to radically reduce the size of some of the departments and/or combine them, while allowing no new hires and getting as many people to retire as possible. This, of course, would be heavily resisted by the employees union.
And even then, how many conservative scientists are you going to get in EPA? Anyone worth his salt is going to work for corporations, not the government.
