Fox News host Glenn Beck's national domination
Washington Post ^ | 1/2/2010 | Dana Milbank

Posted on 01/02/2010 8:11:26 AM PST by Saije

It's official: Americans admire Glenn Beck more than they admire the pope.

This news, at once unsettling and unsurprising, came from the Gallup polling organization on Wednesday. Beck, the new Fox News host who has said President Obama has a "deep-seated hatred for white people" and alternately likens administration officials to Nazis and Marxists, was also more admired by Americans than Billy Graham and Bill Gates, not to mention Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush. In Americans' esteem, Beck only narrowly trailed South Africa's Nelson Mandela, the man who defeated apartheid.

The 45-year-old recovering alcoholic and Mormon convert has become the first true demagogue of the information age. His nightly diet of falsehoods and conspiracies on Fox, and his daily outrages on the radio, have propelled his popularity past even Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. His method is simple: He goes places where others are forbidden by conscience.

Death panels? Government health insurance for dogs? FEMA concentration camps? An Obama "civilian national security force" like Hitler's SS or Saddam Hussein's Republican Guard? An administration official advocating forced abortions and sterilization agents in drinking water? Beck trafficked in them all in 2009.

He also proposed on his radio show that people should read Hitler's "Mein Kampf" to prepare for Obama's health-care plan -- and that's in addition to the 28 times the Fuhrer made an appearance on Beck's Fox show in 2009. The Anti-Defamation League identified the secret to Beck's success when it noted that he, unlike other prominent right-wing talkers, was willing "to give a platform to the conspiracy theorists and anti-government extremists."

One of my biggest peeves with the left is when Oprah gets tears in her eyes, she is so caring and sensitive. When Beck gets a tear in his eye, he is a crazy, loony, Dumbo.

So, who was it coined to describe? Mitt Romney?

And while I definitely agree GB is conservative, he hasn’t been around long enough to be considered “great”. He is not Reagan or Rush. Only time will tell.

You can have your facts correct, yet still spin things inappropriately. His facts may be fine, his conclusions can still be faulty. That is what I do not trust.

Death panels?

An group of appointed persons (panel) with the power to determine who shall receive care/treatment and who shall not, those who do not dying because they did not receive it (death) -- this is an accurate euphemism, point to Beck.

Government health insurance for dogs?

It's in one of the proposed bills, House I believe -- point to Beck.

FEMA concentration camps?

Beck checked into this conspiracy to debunk it, and did so -- point to Beck.

An Obama "civilian national security force" like Hitler's SS or Saddam Hussein's Republican Guard?

No response from 0bama or his minions to explain what he meant by his terminology for an unnecessary cadre, not to mention all the indoctrination of the American youth, the marching in lock step, the pledging to serve and be of use to the president, the pre-schoolers and their chanting/singing -- point to Beck.

An administration official advocating forced abortions and sterilization agents in drinking water?

Holdren published his theories in his book -- point to Beck.

Beck trafficked in them all in 2009.

The subtle implication with the use of the word *trafficked* that Glenn was full of crap, I have demonstrated otherwise. Your point, Milbank??

I agree, Beck is definitely melodramatic. I think he has to in order to spark the interest of the “reality show” mentality of so many of the populace. His antics get on my nerves sometimes. but his points are well made.

You wrote: "I didn’t trust beck the first time I saw him. I could not put my finger on it for the longest time. Hubby loved him but is starting to question his trustworthiness"

Yeah, I guess when he shows videos of the scum in the administration IN THEIR OWN WORDS describing themselves as radicals, socialist, communists, revolutionaries he cannot be trusted. If we cannot accept videos of the socialist enemy within this country then why bother watching any show? You try to do better than Glenn and see if you can find a better way to expose the enemy than using their own words.

Good grief, how many of us have been correct as many times as GB has been on his show?

The left has to lie and distort and attack the person as HISTORY proves their philosophy to be a failure every time it is tried.

Rev Manning has called for a national call in to Glenn Beck's radio show about the Obama eligibility issue on Monday, the 4th of January.

There are at least four quo warranto lawsuits making their way throught the court system: Hemenway, Apuzzo, Taitz, and Donofrio. If Obama is exposed for being a charlatan, he can be removed without being impeached as he was never eligible to begin with.

Beck is a ham but he’s done a great job exposing the Dems. He’s not in the tank for the Republicans either. He knows they’re nothing more then the Democrats slightly less ugly sister.

I imagine he is about to get the number to Glenn’s red phone so he can call in and tell Glenn exactly WHAT falsehoods he is referring to.

It’s not about his videos, it’s not even about his “facts”. It is his propensity to hyperbole and I cannot trust him not to put a spin on things.

I also question anybody who puts their faith in a fantasy, and then expects me to trust what they are saying.

And I am not talking politics here.

Stupid things to use to make judgments in America, Polls and Dana Milbank articles.

Have to go with Billy Graham over Beck though.

Billy Graham has said his share of unacceptable things as well.

I “like” Beck, cannot say I admire him, he is far to unstable/emotional for admiration imho.

I'm not sure I'd say I admire him either, that'd be too strong a word, however I do respect him. As far as unstable/emotional...maybe, but I'd rather someone who is able to invest emotion by caring than someone too detached. As I see it, Beck has done Americans and the world a favor by providing important information and encouragement. Rather he does so in too theatrical a way or too emotional...well, that's window dressing. If the message is valid then a service is being provided. I don't care for how Rush presents information, but that doesn't invalidate much of what he says.

I think you may be right about that! So...this here Dana whatsherface man/boy writer is just basically repeating the negative stuff what he has heard and/or read about Beck without even bothering to check sources or whatever. OK..I get it now. I knew kids like that in jr. high. Did the boiled frog at least get a mention?

Yup, just more typical liberal drivel. Never bother to address the facts or the message when one can simply try to shift the focus to the messenger and try to discredit them. Liberals even have a name for their strategy...the politics of personal destruction.

I like Beck even if he is a tad melodramatic at times. But he’s hardly a demagogue. He’s simply honest enough to describe Obama for what he is...a glib, mendacious quasi-Marxist who’s totally out of his depth. Libs like Milbank can’t stand the truth.

Beck is a charlatan and demagogue who knows nothing about ideology or politics for that matter. Limbaugh is much closer as to the nature of the radical enemy that has our government in it’s grip. Unfortunately Limbaugh is a proponent of elections and he may change his mind when the left tries to steal the 2010 elections and pad the census numbers for reapportionment in the 2012 elections. I am afraid we are heade towards a civil war or violent split in this country. Our side needs to remain united and focused or we will all hang separately as Fidel once said.. I pray I am wrong, but I don’t think so..
