Marxist-style sharing of property was not preached by Jesus himself. It was a survival tactic among a group under intense persecution. If you were living in a bomb shelter or a catacomb, what would you think of someone who would not share?

The early Christians were not a threat to anyone except the religious establishment, both Jewish and Greco-Roman. The NT preached against any rebellion against the state. Again, a survival tactic, and an acknowledgement that the Kingdom of God was "not of this world."

Yes, but my point is that Jones was able to use that Biblical injunction, plucked out of its historical context, to justify his People’s Temple. Thus he could claim to be Christianity-based, when he was espousing a form of Marxism.
