There are reports that clashes have begun between security forces and protesters in Central Tehran – mainly in Sadeghie, where Mehdi Karroubi is expected to arrive within a short while. This could not be confirmed through other sources yet. There are now also reports that there have been clashes at Azadi Square in Central Tehran.

* * Announcement from Karoubi’s camp is that at 10 a.m. Karoubi himself will be appearing at the Sadeghiyeh 2nd square and will begin to march with the protesters toward Azadi square. Green protesters have vowed to surround Karoubi and protect him “like a gem”.
UPDATE at 9: 35 a.m. Mohammad-Taghi Karoubi, Mehdi Karoubi’s eldest son has announced that a number of the people who had volunteered to protect and guard Karoubi were arrested last night and so far none have been released.
