Critical Threats: Blank When None
Al Qaeda’s Yemen Connection, America and the Global Islamic Jihad

December 30, 2009 — The attempt to destroy Northwest Airlines flight 253 en route from Amsterdam to Detroit on Christmas Day underscores the growing ambition of al Qaeda's Yemen franchise, which has grown from a largely Yemeni agenda to become a player in the global Islamic jihad in the last year. Since merging with the al Qaeda franchise in Saudi Arabia last January and renaming itself Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), it has stepped up operations in Yemen itself, struck into Saudi Arabia, and now operates on the global stage. The weak Yemeni government of President Ali Abdallah Salih, which has never fully controlled the country and now faces a host of growing problems, will need significant American support to defeat AQAP.

Al Qaeda has long been active in Yemen, the original homeland of Osama bin Laden's family, and one of its first major terror attacks was conducted in Aden in 2000, when an al Qaeda cell nearly sank the USS Cole. A year ago, the al Qaeda franchises in Saudi Arabia and Yemen merged after the Saudi branch had been effectively repressed by the Saudi authorities under the leadership of Deputy Interior Minister Prince Muhammad bin Nayif. The new AQAP showed its claws last August, when it almost assassinated the prince with a suicide bomber who had passed through at least two airports on the way to his attempt on Nayif.

(snip)

The attack on the Amsterdam-Detroit flight also shows that al Qaeda remains obsessed with striking the American airline industry, a target it has gone after repeatedly since 1999. If AQAP has now been told by the al Qaeda core leadership to take on the job, we can probably assume that other al Qaeda franchises in North Africa, Iraq, Southeast Asia and elsewhere have also been pressed to attack.

Security Breach Forces Evacuation At CVG
December 31, 2009

HEBRON, Ky. -- A security breach forced the evacuation Thursday morning of a terminal at Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport. Transportation officials said a passenger walked away with his bag before security agents had finished screening it.

Officials said the man or his luggage had set off an alert that would have subjected him and his bags to additional screening, but he had disappeared into the crowd before agents could call him back.

As a precaution, all passengers on board flights connected to Terminal 2 were required to disembark the aircraft and all travelers in the terminal were required to evacuate the building. New security screenings were undertaken for all travelers, and airport spokeswoman Barb Schempf said operations were back to normal by 8:30 a.m. No safety or security threats were found during the additional screening process, officials said, and flights resumed.

No information was available about the passenger who caused the security breach, which remains under investigation. Airports around the country have heightened sensitivity in the aftermath of the Christmas Day arrest of a man who allegedly tried to detonate an explosive device hidden on his body on a Northwest Airlines flight near Detroit. However, transportation officials said the airport's response to the security breach was standard procedure for such situations.

I would bet money the “Indian” man in this article is not Indian, but Pakistani. And I am still putting my thumb firmly on the State Department for having so many islamist moles in embassies around the world that we are safe nowhere and no time. This whole thing stinks to high, high heaven!

Your entire post deserves national news headline IMHO. Americans already know what their government refuses to acknowledge and/or act upon. The idea of filling the administration and embassies with Japanese after being bombed at Pearl Harbor would have been (and rightly so) unthinkable and people would have been outraged.

This administration seems determined that everyone with ties to Islam is their friend until proven otherwise -- a potentially deadly mindset. Citizens are questioning the common sense and inability to be forthright of government with regard to what we all know is an Islamic extremist threat. The same would hold true if the perpetrators of terrorism in the vast majority of cases were French, English, Spanish or whatever. It's NOT racism, it's common sense and it's National Security.

You’re welcome Cindy. I plan on doing a lot of reading this New Years Eve. There’s a lot out there on the web to absorb and pass along.... It’ll be a quiet New Years Eve here at my house.

Keep the good stuff coming - I’m reading :)

CNN: AP- CIA post chief among the 7 killed in attack against CIA FOP base; al-Qaeda claims responsibility for attack

IMO this had to be an inside job once again. Prayers go out to their families.

To: MamaDearest; All

Best wishes for a peaceful, healthy and Happy New Year. I’ve been running back and forth from the kitchen to the computer room all afternoon....trying to keep up. Big neighborhood party (within snow machine distance) tonight and I was tasked to bring Buffalo Wings....15 pounds of them. I won’t stay long because I really hate body to body crowds. Mr. RR will be in his glory. He will have a captive audience for his scintillating (ahem) conversation. RR Jr. (our other next-door neighbor) promised to bring me home after 30 minutes. That’s about as long as I can stand it. I’ll be the oldest one there and don’t know all about the latest pop icons, fashions, etc. I long ago lost interest in potty training techniques, the best laundry soap, and which neighbor is acting slutty. (actually, she is the one I like best...LOL) I’d rather be here with like-minded souls and a really good book. Yep, I’m getting old.

I apologize if I shouldn't post this on TM, but I have decided that this is undoubtedly the strangest article that I have read during the entire year of 2009, so I wanted to bring it to everybody's attention, even the TM Lurkers.

So sorry, in advance, but....

I definitely agree with you on all of that RR. I can’t stand crowds anymore - they seem like petri dishes of germs to me. LOL

Rather sad, isn’t it, that we find ourselves admiring a foreign leader (Putin, no less) more than our own.

I just read that on another thread. That’s where Mr. RR and I go once a year for our annual “poke and prod”. (Mayo in Minnesota) They will probably follow suit and not take Medicare also.....which is our secondary insurance. Oh my.

The older I get, the more I hate crowds and airplanes. Unfortunately, I have to deal with both “petri dishes”. Purell is my new best friend.

Sadly, the times we are in require a no nonsense intelligent & tough president who is who he says he is, not a charlatan.
