Today, we have learned that Indian automaker Mahindra is on track to sell the TR-series diesel trucks after completing all federal tests and is set to submit certification paperwork to the government in January. Final federal approval is expected in February; the trucks would then finally go on sale in the spring. It was just last month that we reported that the trucks were under review by the EPA and NHTSA, with final approval expected by Q1 2010.
As of today, we are projecting that the vehicles will be on sale in the middle of spring, [2010], said John Perez, CEO of Mahindras U.S. distributor Global Vehicles USA, via Web video.
Mahindra Pickup Side Mahindras spring release would finally put a diesel-powered light-duty truck into the hands of the U.S. consumer, after much delay. Barring a swift change in plans from Ford, GM, or Chrysler, the Mahindra TR-series would be the only offerings in its segment.

Great post, Red Badger !
I enjoyed reading the specs of this neat vehicle !
In Honduras, they already sell a ranger with a “Powerstroke 3 liter”. It is basically half of a V8. I can’t understand why we can’t get those here. Toyota also sells a lot of diesels down there.
My bet is on the giant turd that sits just to the east of the Potomac river.
Umm...I don’t think it’s up to Ford to replace a Jeep...that would be Fiat’s decision.
We had ‘em...but hardly anybody bought ‘em. I don’t think the attitude will change much unless diesel prices come down quite a bit. Most people wouldn’t pay for 93 octane at the pump if they didn’t have to. Equivalent mileage and premium prices for a diesel? I just don’t see it.
Nice built, good finish on everything including the paint, heavy duty and as nice a tractor as I have seen even though I am a John Deere man. Worth taking a look at because the price is Great.
We’re talking >50% better mileage with the longevity of a diesel (assuming it’s well made). I love my ‘92 Toyota truck, but it’s getting old and for whatever reason, Toyota doesn’t build small trucks any more. I don’t need a big pickup that can go from 0-60 in 5 seconds getting 12mpg. I need a reliable, economical 4X4 work horse. Good luck to Mahindra.
No, but I’m sure you can order it as a special order!..............
“TURST IN GOD”??????.............Thye spell funny.................
Where are the specs? I couldn’t find them.
Trying for the ladies market, I suppose................
A friend of mine drove a Isuzu diesel pick up for years and his Dad had already put lots of miles on it...
Having been there several times, the most memorial image that comes to mind is the belching exhaust of hundreds of trucks climbing the gravel roads up into the Gnats. Air so dirty birds literally fell dead out of the sky.
Drove an earlier version at Dix...on bivouac. nuttin' wrong w/those other than the short repair intervals, kept motor pool busy. Still have my 'license'!
see the confusion there....that would be replacing my Jeep...tho’ it’ll have to wait for zero’s replacement too!
,,, where I am we get the TATA diesel pickups - not a lot of them on the road, but give it a little time. They use the Peugeot HDi common rail engine as in the Peugeot 406. I’d like to see what the Mahindra’s like... can’t imagine a gun rack on the back of one though!
Reminds me of the old Isuzu pickup trucks.
