When you leave Wal-Mart after making a purchase, you walk past a scanner that sets off an alarm if you haven't paid for something.
And if the alarm goes off at this Wal-Mart, Ed Bauman will want to talk to you.
Ed Bauman, Wal-Mart greeter, says "I'm getting too old for this stuff."
Too old to be punched in the head by a customer who exception to Bauman's questions.
Ed says "when he swang, he got me right here," pointing to the back of his head.
The 69-year-old greeter was at the entrance when a man in red shorts, identified as Skyler Lowery set off the alarm but then refused to stop when Bauman questioned him.
Bauman went outside to get his license but then the guy rips Bauman's clipboard from his hands and goes back inside.
Ed says "I grabbed the clip board back and as I was doing that, he hit me with a doubled-up fist behind my ear."
The 6-foot-2 retired Marine didn't back down.
Ed says "the security officer said if you would have hit him in the jaw the way you hit him in the chest, you would have knocked him out."
Police arrested Lowery who would have faced a charge of misdemeanor battery had Bauman been under 65. But hitting an older person is a felony and Bauman says he still doesn't know why it happened.
The alarm was false and Lowery had a receipt for everything in his bag.
Failing to show the receipt in this case meant the difference between 10 seconds and five years. It would have taken 10 seconds to show the receipt but now he faces up to five years for battery on a person over 65.

Yeah, that site became so popular at work (during the lunch hour, of course) that the corporate firewall was cinched up to block it....

Manly, I can’t believe your naive enough to believe Skyler didn’t have stolen property on his person. I would bet the farm he threw the goods down in the parking lot before he returned to the store. Stop taking up for these turds.

There is no duty to show a receipt. On the other hand, if you are a mentally normal human adult, you understand there is no reason NOT to show a receipt.

One should just hang it all up at that pointIt wasn't so very long ago that when someone did something so completely awful that he dishonored himself and his family for life, it was more or less expected that he take a loaded revolver out to a deserted beach at low tide and "do the honorable thing".
These days, the person gets invited on to the Oprah show, cries and blubbers a little in front of millions of people and is then held up as being some sort of positive example.
We can thank the Left for working so very diligently at removing the concepts of personal honor and integrity from our cultural lexicon.

THe young man grabbed the clip board, the “Greeter” attcked him and shoed the younger man into the pylon. THe younger man fought back at that point.
If I was on the jury, the Marine would be getting the questions....
Yes, I watched the store video 5 times.
The old man is very aggressive. But, that’s an old school jarhead for ya....

I’ve had the alarms go off a few times. I wait to let the staff check things out. Then I leave, no problem.
This guy was an accident waiting to happen, teeing off on the older gentleman like that.
The old duffer tried to regain possession of his clipboard. The customer hit him with his fist.
Adios customer. You’re a real bright-path fella. Talk about turning a non-situation into a jail sentence, this was a masterful performance. /s

LMAO, it was the greeter who caused the problem right?
1. Who took the other person’s property?
2. Who ran back into the store to take that property?
3. Who exhibited anger after being challenged by taking said property?
4. Who pulled away backing into that pylon rather than return the property?
Remind me never to call you as a witness.

So you think it’s better that a person be allowed to steal, than an employee at the store be able to take a simple look inside the bag he’s carrying.
LMAO, I’m kind of sorry for ya it that’s all the better you can do on this one.

NO
Read what I posted, please.
The kid grabbed the clipboard - boorish.
The Greeter went inside and grabbed the clipboard and at the same time shoved the kid into the pylon. The greeter excalated the situation.
At that point, the kid lashed out.
At best both at fault. You see what you want to see, I see what I see.
Good thing it is on video, someone else will make the call.
I suspect the greeter will be looking for a new job shortly.

Second point -asked the Mrs to look.
She saw the Greeter as very aggresive and escalated the situation by following the kid inside, and attacking the kid. BTW, it looks like the greeter threw the first punch....
Shame the video is not better quality.

Many people ignore that the first physical contact was made by the greeter. However, it was not near enough to justify the can of whoopass that the greeter later received.
I see the alarm misfire more that actually catch thieves. Its better than they were, but seem to cry wolf more often than not.
I am one of those who ignore requests from LPOs, greeters etc for bag checks. They whine and grouse but in reality can do nothing. Those that try soon regret it and some have lost their jobs.
