Armed Robbery Suspect Seemingly Dies by Firing Squad
DALLAS (WBAP) - An armed robbery suspect was fatally shot by 15 police officers on the front porch of an east Dallas home Sunday night - 13 were from Dallas and 2 were from Mesquite. A second suspect was also shot.
Authorities say it started when Dontell Terrell, 19, Benjamin Anthony Joseph, 27, and a 16-year-old boy robbed a Papa John's Pizza in Mesquite just after 9 p.m. The suspects fired shots into the ceiling during the robbery and after getting away with money, they fled in a car.
Mesquite police caught up with the fleeing car and the pursuit moved into the Pleasant Grove area of Dallas. Dallas police say Terrell jumped out of the moving car and ran up to the front porch of a random home in the 10000 block of Mecita Drive. There, he held a gun to his head and a cell phone to his ear. He was talking with his mother, telling her he wanted to commit suicide because he didn't want to go back to prison.
Dallas police Sergeant Warren Mitchell says for 20 mintues, both Mesquite and Dallas police officers tried to get Terrell to drop his weapon and surrender.
"Shortly after that, he lowered his gun, pointed it one of the Dallas and Mesquite officers and the officers - fearing for their lives - fired several shots and shot Mr. Terrell," Sgt. Warren Mitchell said.
The cops did the right thing! We’ve buried 5 local cops in the last 2 months, and one is still barely clinging to life in an ICU on machines!
You point a gun at a cop...... it’s over! Period!
RUT, ROH!!!
No matter how righteous the shooting was, you know what might happen now....
