Now Is the Time to Fight
The Corner ^ | Jefferey Anderson

The Democrats passed a highly unpopular bill with two votes to spare in the House and none to spare in the Senate. Now they have to blend the bills (mostly reflecting the Senate one) and get them back through both chambers — after hearing from their constituents over the holidays.

Furthermore, the House bill passed only because of relatively strong anti-abortion language demanded by pro-life Democrats in particularly precarious seats. The Senate bill doesn't contain that language. So either the anti-abortion Democrats in the House or the pro-abortion Democrats in the Senate are going to have to cave. Combine this with other issues, and the Democrats' almost-nonexistent margin for error, and final passage is anything but certain.

I think they will be able to massage it enough and bully enough congressmen and senators to get it done no matter what’s in it. After all, even Stupak said he would vote for it even if it didn’t have the strong anti abortion language.

A poll on buzzdash.com, asking if you contacted your Representatives over healthcare, 50% said no. The think government is so corrupt, why bother...

Only time shall tell. They will attempt to become moderates before 2010...the GOP will probably be so consumed with infighting that we don’t notice and they may still have a supermajority.

Oh yes they will quickly become fiscal conservatives. Every Democrat is a Socialist now. None can claim to be “moderate”.

They’ll pass something even if it bears little to no resemblance to the original proposal.

The only thing that matters to them now is passing something - anything. That way they can say to their constituents, ‘see - we promised we’d pass health care reform, and we did!”

Never mind that it is NOT the bill that they wanted. What must really smart is that after the 2008 elections, they were positively giddy about their new majority and how they were going to run roughshod over the republicans and get everything they wanted passed. Even with a majority they were unable to get what they really wanted. I’ll bet that sticks in their craw.

I think passage is GOING TO HAPPEN short of a revolt by the American people during the Christmas holidays. There are so many loopholes and dirty deals that can be made to buy the necessary votes for passage. All that matters to these ba$tards is passing a bill that gets CONTROL of health care. It matters not what the language says or what the CBO says it will cost. We are so screwed, or will be as soon as these dirty rats get their way. I hope there will be something favorable coming out of the lawsuits from the states rendering this monstrosity unconstitutional.

The fight now shifts back to the House, where the bill passed with a narrow majority. We have to concentrate on the so-called blue dogs who voted for the House bill, and try to convince them that their jobs depend on them voting against the conference committee report, which I’m sure was written months ago.

I don’t know if they can fillibuster the conference committee report. Probably not. It probably doesn’t matter, Massachusets’ chances of electing a Republican are somewhere closer to none than slim.

If the bill ping pongs unchanged from Senate to House to Hussein, no more cloture votes. If it goes to Conference, yes, more cloture votes.

“WE MUST DEFEAT SOCIALIZED MEDICINE.”

Medicare is socialized medicine. If we’re going to be against socialism, you gotta go all the way.

No, I think, unfortunately there is no defeating it - there is only destroying it by letting it be implemented the rest of the way and spectacularly failing.

If I were the democrats, I’d develop a strategy to run third party candidates against republicans. For example, if there was a conservative republican candidate, you could run a candidate to the right of the republican candidate. They’ve done this before, and will look for any strategy that would split the republican vote. They have no other way to hold onto power than tricking the voters.

Maybe you don’t mind watching loved-ones suffer and die because the government refuses them the treatment they need, but I sure as hell mind.

We have the best medical care the entire history of the world has ever seen and is currently the best on the planet.

I’m not willing to throw that down the tubes.

But you’re right, Medicare and Medicaid are both socialized medicine. The only difference is that they target select demographics for control and maltreatment.

THE BILLS THEY ARE PUSHING NOW WILL TARGET ALL PEOPLE FOR CONTROL AND MALTREATMENT.

Everybody ... and I mean EVERYBODY ... needs to save file copies of all the voting roll calls from this atrocity.

When the traitors try to repackage themselves in 2010 as moderates or even conservatives, in the hopes that we forget and we’ll send their miserable asses back to Washington, we MUST be able to show EXACTLY where and where they screwed us!

The Dems have been lying to us for months. Don’t let them pull off the biggest lie of all! They are TRAITORS and we must REMEMBER that they are traitors and remind our fellow citizens that they are traitors!!

“Maybe you don’t mind watching loved-ones suffer and die because the government refuses them the treatment they need, but I sure as hell mind.”

Nobody made an effective argument when government got involved in medicare/medicaid. We now have incoming socialized medicine. So when, exactly, did you start caring about socialism? The GOP, like most folks are simply for “socialism lite”

“We have the best medical care the entire history of the world has ever seen and is currently the best on the planet.”

So now you’ll have to go somewhere else to get it, if you have the money. You presume, like most in opposition to the dems plan, that “doing nothing” is good enough. It obviously was not good enough.

“I’m not willing to throw that down the tubes.” You, me, and everyone else who failed to make a proper and vigorous argument against socialism over the past 40 years have ensured that it’s thrown down the tubes, at least in this country.

“THE BILLS THEY ARE PUSHING NOW WILL TARGET ALL PEOPLE FOR CONTROL AND MALTREATMENT.”

Only if you follow the rules. If you want quality care, you’ll have to pay for it - either on the black market in this country, or some other country where it will be available.

Are you going to follow the rules? I’m not. Nobody should. In fact, nobody should expect anyone to take care of them. That’s really where we are today. There is something liberating about that.
