Reid, McConnell Reach Deal to Adjourn Early
Roll Call ^ | December 23, 2009 | By John Stanton

Posted on 12/22/2009 11:58:40 AM PST by MaestroLC

Senate Republicans have agreed to end their filibuster of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) health care reform bill a few hours early on Christmas Eve, a move that will allow the GOP to technically stick to its promise to force Dec. 24 vote on the measure while still making it possible for Senators to return home for the holiday.

Would it be wrong to want several planes to get lost on the way out of Washington this ‘holiday’? Do you suppose Chavez would hold them if they just flopped down in his territory? ... Disgusting gutter rats

On the plus side, the liberals are paying a horrific price.

Out here Bennet is taking a beating. He was pretending to be a moderate and his leadership was letting him vote against the party when it didn't count. But he drew a primary challenge and has had to tack left. Plus, there was no leeway on the health care vote, so he had to vote with the party.

EVERY Republican in the race, even the ones with no name recognition is now polling ahead of Bennet. This will just make it worse.

I’m going to ping you to a thread that once again shows the disrespect TOTUS has for the White House.

The Republicans never allow principle to get in the way of Senatorial “courtesy”. Senatorial courtesy means Republicans bending over for Dems, so that they will continue to get invited to Dem social events. I’ll bet old John McCain is already looking for a new Senate Dem to befriend now that Kennedy is gone to his reward. In the old boys club that is the Senate, the Republicans are nothing more than doormen.

At this moment there are many thousands of American soldiers who will be away from home on Christmas for the sake of their country. Those forty Republican senators might have done the same.

This is basically it for me. If I see any more FReepers publicly supporting Mitch McConnell from this point forth, I’m going to consider them hostiles. He’s already backing RINOs in his district. It would not surprise me at this point to find out that Harry bought his surrender.

My Senators are useless - they won’t even talk to me, so I called a few high ranking Republican Senators (I couldn’t get through to McConnell). I told them that they should do everything in their power to kill this bill - to not let it come up for a vote. My God, pull the fire alarm for Pete’s sake! Shut off the heat, civil disobedience, fill the gallery with anti-Obumbacare protestors, shut down the chamber with noise, take over the session via a “real” filibuster, there are 1001 things that they can do to keep the session from proceeding. They may be disliked and labeled bad names in the state run press, but they will be hailed as Patriots in the history books. It sure beats armed insurrection, doesn’t it?

I just called my Republican senator’s local office and asked how he was voting on ending the filibuster. I was told he’s voting against it.

I called my Democratic senator’s local office, but there was no one to take my call.

WHERE is the Leadership in the Republican Party on this?

We all know that slowing this monstrosity down by ANY means possible into the New Year means a whole new “light of day” shining on it, after the nation is done with Christmas. And at that point, it may just fail due to the increased public attention.

So what do our spineless wonders do? Why, they allow it to be expedited, pronto - so they can get their bloated hineys home for “the Holiday” (gee, what “Holiday” would THAT be?)

Not a red nickel is coming from me for this “party” until it is TOTALLY revamped from top to bottom.

Okay, so let's give up on the GOP, start a third party and elect leftist democrats, letting them rule us until the turn of the next century.....

Got it. Great strategy!

Thank Obama voter and FREEPER TexasBud:

". I crossed over and voted for Obama, when McCain picked Palin as his VP choice. Other Republicans did, too. As one highly respected Republican said, “I have learned from the Bush administration to value competence foremost over ideology.” (I am paraphrasing.) He was explaining why he was endorsing Obama, even though he didn’t share his ideology, and it had to do mainly with Palin and what it said about McCain’s competence, as well. I and other Republicans didn’t vote for a communist or a socialist. He’s a liberal with a bottom-up approach (as opposed to a trickle down approach) much along the lines of FDR and JFK. If you want to be taken seriously, you have to give up outlandish nonsensical arguments. Unless, of course, that’s all you have to stand on."

What a crock. This is utter crap. I do not trust the mainstream press, but if it is accurate, it shows what happens when Republicans try to “get along” with these communists...they get taken for chumps.

Make them read the whole damn bill.

This whole thing was staged to force them to vote. Everyone wants to be home with their family for Christmas. What better way to get what you want, than to force them to stay there..unless, of course, they vote.

Its all bullshit and they are a disgrace to this country. And they dont even care..what they look like to people on the outside looking in.

DON’T make the mistake of putting ANYTHING past this party. Procedurally, legally, they are suppose to send it to committee. I wouldn’t count on it. Pelosi is just devious and corrupt enough to combine the two and get it passed without committee. Heck they have broken so many house and senate rules by now, once one more? DON”T TRUST THEM to follow rules, ever!
