I am happily living in the great State of Alabama, and I'm am a Conservative/Libertarian.
Facts however are hard things. According to the media he voted with the dems 84% of the time.
“HUNTSVILLE, AL — U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith’s voting record in his first year in Congress contains several interesting details.
Griffith’s record is already being debated. Was he a Pelosi loyalist or a Democrat in name only?
Griffith, who announced his party switch today, voted with the Democratic majority 84 percent of the time...”
You tell me. Does not sound like a conservative to me.
No actually, I’m totally correct. I saw the returns from 2008. I saw that half of the white voters that had stuck with Kerry shifted to McCain in the part of the state. Only one explanation for that.
Like it or not that issue is playing a part in helping set the stage for a Republican wave in this state. It would be best for us not to mess it up in anyway. Play it right, and we have North Alabama in our column for several generations.
But the thing is in 1869 Democrats were the conservative party and Republicans were the liberals.
Democrats remained the conservative party in this state until a date that cannot be determined. Some say 1986 when they threw out the election. Some say 1988 when Jackson won the primary. Some say 1994 when the Revolution occurred. My take is that it began with the ‘86 election and gradually continued until by 2002 it was very clear that Republicans were the conservative party and Democrats the liberals.
It took getting a Republican president with a Southern accent (even I now think he was a deficit inducing disaster) to help cement the idea that the Democrats were no longer the Democrats of old waving the rebel flag and the defenders of our values.
However, we haven’t been able to get that message to stick in North Alabama. They still view the Republicans as the party of Lincoln and Reconstruction and they have all their good old country boy Dems to pass that message along. If nothing else, Barack Obama’s election shattered that rationale and shattered these people’s worlds and I expect us to reap the full benefits next year.
Yeah but that number is misleading.
A lot of those votes were procedural votes where both parties voted yes. He may have voted with the Dems a majority of the time but he also has voted with the GOP a majority of the time, I think something like 62-63%.
So while that 85% stat is a great line for Brooks (who is his real competition. This is Alabama, Les has no chance) it is also one that can be refuted easily.
If he has tha tlittle regard for Pelosi and is willing to change sides (he should have done it before the House voted on health care IMO), he may have inside information he can pass on to the pathetic leadership the GOP has in the House and to the American public.
I’m sure he’s been privy to what the Dems have in store for the US, I’m also positive those paying attention will not like it.
Amen. Brother Griffith has attained the “age of reason.”
Never mind posting the facts of Rep. Griffith’s voting record. The knuckle-draggers here have already deemed him a RINO and formed a mob to throw him out. I swear a good number of these so-called “true conservatives” are actually leftists out to secure a permanent majority for the Dummycrats.
How do you know he’s an “asshat.” Please tell us the details.
President Ronald Reagan was once a Democrat, AND a member of a union.
The founder and owner of this forum was once a Democrat.
I was once a Democrat.
It happens. Do you care to discuss this further?
Cool!
Instead of being sick, why don't you just start another political party instead of griping endlessly about GOP who do not have twin opinions with yours on absolutely everything. If we focus on smaller government and national security, I think enough Americans agree with us that we can knock the Dems off their high horse. If you get picky about every last thing about a legislator with (R) after their name, we remain in disarray and powerless.
Try reading the posts prior to yours before you post.
Just a thought.
You are welcome to run for office and show us how conservative your voting record would be. We are waiting.....
Sounds like 2010 is going to be a good year for the AL GOP.
With Obama’s approval dropping like a rock in AL, Arthur Davis is going to be a tough sell for Governor. Perhaps, it will be safe for AL GOP primary voters to nominate Roy Moore to send a message to Beltway GOP Insiders.
More power to you!!
Hey Enchilada....thanks for the very relevant, deep thought. Here’s one for you. Why don’t you mind your own business. You have nothing better to do than dig through 200+ posts to lecture me?
Ex-Auditor Susan Parker is looking at challenging Parker Griffith.
I was NEVER a Democrat. I was conservative before I knew the word for it. Why weren’t you?
