Another point: If you tell all those millions who organized for tea parties that their effort was wasted.. you’re not helping - and it’s not true.

Seriously.

Well said!

This is a dangerous moment for conservatism. If people give in to despair and desperation, then yes — all the hard work is ruined.

“If you tell all those millions who organized for tea parties that their effort was wasted.. you’re not helping - and it’s not true.”

Right. The real goal was a one-two-punch.

Phase 1 — healthcare.
Phase 2 — immigration reform.

The goal was to pass healthcare first, because immigration reform makes it more expensive.

They were stopped in their tracks!

Imagine if illegal immigrants were given the right to vote in 2010 AFTER healthcare reform. They would have been in the left’s hip pocket.

They had a contingency plan as well, a delay in allowing immigrants to vote, but there would still be that looming over politicians’ heads, the need to ‘hispander’ like never before.
