Sen. Ben Nelson (Neb.), the final Democratic holdout on health care, was prepared to announce to his caucus Saturday morning that he would support the Senate reform bill, clearing the way for final passage by Christmas.
"We're there," said Sen. Kent Conrad (D-N.D.), as he headed into a special meeting to announce the deal.
Democratic leaders spent days trying to hammer out a deal with Nelson, and worked late Friday night with Nelson on abortion coverage language that had proved the major stumbling block. But Nelson also secured other favors for his home state.
Asked if he was prepared to support the bill, Nelson said, "Yeah."

Dittos. All of ‘em. Clean the slate.
They are no longer a part of representative government.
The Demoncrats are especially guilty of this, but too many of the GOP refuse to strictly discipline the RINOs who break ranks (and RINOs always break ranks to support liberal causes).
Barry the Pimp looks like he’s made another “sale”.
How hard can it be given the huge TARP Visa Card the A-Hole has.
Every one of these WHORES have their price and he’s got command of our children’s Wealth with that line of credit so there is literally nothing he can not do.
Sorry, I am pissed off too. But to shovel $h*t on the GOP because of the socialism that the SUPER majority Dems are dealing out to us from both the House and Senate is not gonna resolve the issue.
But the GOP better learn from all this.
One thing I am disappointed in are the continued earmarks on the part of every single useless idiot in Washington.
My Two Cents
There remains the furtive hope that Senator Byrd will keel over dead. Now that the old Klansman has even forsaken his State and damned coal, once he has kicked the bucket, all that will remain is to scrub his name from the endless number of places he insisted it be inscribed.
He deserves an unmarked grave site.
IIRC, Coburn is leaving at the end of this, his second term. Self imposed term limit.
Some have voted well, most have not. If you won't reward a politician who votes the right way, there is no incentive for them to vote the right way, or to run for office in the first place.
Not that it probably matters now, as I believe we are screwed past saving.
Mr. niteowl77
That’s ignorant.
Cast the blame where it belongs.
Democrats own this.
Most have not, and the few who did apparently were useless at convincing other members of their party to hold to conservative principles. What the hell have the Republican leaders been doing all this time? The whole thing is a damned joke and either the Republican Party needs to be completely recycled anad made over in a conservative fashion, or we need a new party.
Standby for a march on DC that will make 9/12/2009 look like a small ladies sewing circle.
Let us not forget that we would not have this president nor a dem controlled congress if we didnt have a bunch of girlie men in the republican controlled senate, house and presidency. Piss off your base and you get this .
We need to find patriots to challenge certain republicans in their primaries.
To rant away that all republicans are bad just feeds into the dem mantra and we lose.
We have some repubs who have done everything in their power to stop the dems. I do not want to punish them or paint them with a broad brush.
The good guys and gals deserve our support. They have earned our support. Let’s let them know we’re here for them.
Another Blue Dog in pink tights.....nice Nelson..I will remember.
And anyone was expecting anything different?
I hate every one of those POSs in DC.
probably a nice job when he leaves office in 2012
As it appears, all 40 Senate Republicans are voting AGAINST cloture on this socialist monstosity and all 60 Senate Democrats are voting FOR it. Is there a recall procedure in Nebraska for Nelson (the so-called “conservative” who is anything but one) or in Alaska for Begich, whose seat was stolen from Ted Stevens by the phony indictment and conviction?
Sen. Ben Nelson to announce his receipt of 30 pieces of silver.
The earmarks should tell you all you need to know. I believe we can count Republicans worth saving on the fingers of one hand.
Thanks, you said it better than I did in my post below.
Should have read yours before I posted.
We have got to stop this slamming of our good GOP members.
