Copenhagen, Denmark (CNN) -- President Obama announced what he called a "meaningful and unprecedented" climate change deal with China and other key nations that was expected to be sealed before the president heads home from the Copenhagen summit late Friday.
"For the first time in history, all major economies have come together to accept their responsibility to take action to confront the threat of climate change," Obama told reporters.
The president said he met with leaders from India, China, Brazil and South Africa, and "that's where we agreed ... to set a mitigation target to limit warming to no more than 2 degrees Celsius."
Obama earlier told participants at the two-week conference nearing its end that "there is no time to waste" in forging an agreement.
"Now, I believe, it's the time for the nations and the people of the world to come behind a common purpose," Obama said. "We are ready to get this done today, but there has to be movement on all sides."

This is a farce, just like everything else this clown does. There is no emissions target reduction set, no mechanism for verification, nothing. It's a "gentleman's agreement" which will be totally ignored.

Yup, the only thing that was agreed to is for each country to write up some paper on how they will reduce emissions in their own country. This is as meaningless and non-binding as it gets. It is a total success for national sovereignty!

Maybe I don’t know the definition of mitigate, but what happens if world temperatures climb those 2 degrees? Do they then threaten the earth to STOP IT? CHILL !

yet Barry wants global climate police to enforce a decree that no one’s thermostat rises 2 degrees- guess whose country those global climate police will focus on (hint: deep pockets are able to pay stiffer fines)
