A state of emergency was announced in Poland today involving tightened border controls and random police checks as a nationwide hunt was launched for the infamous bronze sign to the former German Nazi death camp Auschwitz after it was stolen.

in regard to the sign “work sets you free”, the only work that the lib dems know, and agree with, is that of a surgeon cutting up little babies, and calling it tissue.

I think the Romans did something similar in Jerusalem in 70 A.D., namely destroy all the jewish lineage records.

wow. a state of emergency sounds like overkill.
Maybe so, but Poland is very sensitive to charges of antisemitism, and lack of sensitivity to the Holocaust, that they probably wanted to make it clear that this was a top priority.
Yeah, obviously it’s unfortunate that this historical artifact has been stolen, but ‘state of emergency’?! Come on, it’s a metal sign. I’m sure that (even) Polish craftsmen could make a replacement replica in few hours.
That sign is a reminder of cruelty and thousands of lost human lives. It’s recovery warrants top priority.
It isn't just a sign. It is one of the most significant relics of the Holocaust.
If you read the story, the sign was made by the prisoners.
It can’t be easy to hide it. Its always possible this thing was out of the country before they launched their state of emergency.
