Prince William to share Queen's duties: Treasury document reveals secret plan...
Mail on Sunday (UK) ^ | 12th December 2009 | Glen Owen

The Queen is to hand over a substantial part of her public duties to Prince William to help him prepare for the day when he becomes King, according to a confidential document obtained by The Mail on Sunday.

Secret papers reveal that plans to ease the strain on the 83-year-old monarch and her 88-year-old husband, Prince Philip, are at an advanced stage.

The disclosures come despite months of denials from the Palace that the Queen was planning to step back from her official work in favour of her 27-year-old grandson.

The information is contained in a briefing note written by Chancellor Alistair Darling’s Treasury officials about new financial arrangements for Prince Charles and his sons.

Key paragraphs, disclosing the reason for the changes, are blacked out.

But this newspaper has obtained an uncensored version of the document which confirms that the Queen is grooming William as a ‘Shadow King’.

One blacked-out line states that ‘the Princes [William and Harry] will increasingly incur expenditure when undertaking engagements on behalf of The Queen’.

Another censored section, stressing the key role for William, says that ‘from next year, it is expected that HRH The Prince William will spend a significant part of his time on official engagements . . . we need to put the necessary provisions in place in anticipation of that’.

The leak will add to speculation that the Queen believes William, rather than Charles, represents the best long-term interests of the monarchy, and will raise new questions about the timing of William’s long-anticipated engagement to his girlfriend Kate Middleton.

The breach of secrecy caused alarm at the Palace last night, with a senior Royal source expressing concern that the private details had been leaked in ‘unredacted’ - the official term for uncensored - form.

Prince Charles was also a horses ass towards President Bush and our war on Islamic terror.

Great. A man who shows ever sign of being a Muslim convert to become King of Britain.

“I do so hope that you, as people who operate in the very modern world of business and finance, will use your influence to....promote the important principle of wholeness which Islam can still teach us in the West.”-Prince Charles

I do not think Charles is necessarily being passes over. I think the analogy of Victoria’s son Edward VII is what Her Majesty is thinking. Like Charles will be advanced, Edward was around 60 when he assumed the throne lived for only another 8 years. I think Her Majesty is already thinking about stepping up William’s “training” a notch since there is a strong possibility that Charles will have a relatively short reign.

Oh sorry. Wasn’t paying close attention. Yes, the Edward of Victorian times. Completely different era. Lillie Langtry was one of his more notable mistresses. He was quite the cad. LOL.

If memory serves, I think Camilla’s great grandmother was one of his mistresses.

From what I hear...Charles is a Muslim sympathizer and notoriously “green”, that is, he is a supporter of the global-warming hoax.

Besides the whole Camilla thing.

I’d much, MUCH rather see William as King.

Prince Charles is but another fraud who jets around the world with his entourage, leaving a huge carbon footprint, while exhorting others to cut back.

Given the U.K’s financial problems, I question how much longer it can afford the useless royals. If you need someone to officiate at the opening of a new supermarket, use Miss England or one of the Page 3 girls. They’re far less expensive and far more presentable.

I get confused too. I think you are right and if my memory is right Camila used that as a pick up line with Charles. :)

...he does believe climate change is real...

So do I. That's why I purchase winter clothes for the winter. Where was Charles during this big event?

Thank you for posting this. What you say makes sense. It is no surprise that the Queen and Prince Philip (who I think has looked frail lately) would be cutting back their duties and that Prince William should step up and take on more responsibilities. I think people who see this as a dig at the Prince of Wales see everything as a dig at the Prince of Wales because they don’t like him. Regardless of what his detractors think, he is the heir to the throne and the Queen is unlikely do to anything to undermine him. I have always thought he was a very interesting man, even when I disagree with some of his enthusiasms. That said, I think he is right on target about architecture and the fantastic gardens he has created would have earned anyone else the admiration of the country. The resentment that people feel for that well intentioned man is unfathomable.

"Abolish this monarch thing."

I got a better idea. If you are an American as I am how about we stay out of other countries affairs?

I suppose replace the monarchy as other parliamentary democracies with a President nobody outside the country knows and most likely the countries own citizens do not care about.

Poor Charlie! He can’t get the job until his Mom dies. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone.

What you say may well be true, but the fact of the matter is that Prince Charles cannot command the level of respect that his mother does, or that his sons have the potential to.

As soon as he becomes King, every dominion except Britain itself will become a republic, and in Britain itself, I suspect republican sentiment will form the majority opinion and only apathy will keep the monarchy in place...

At the rate that the Queen is going, Charles could be 70 by the time he succeeds to the throne.

In the old days, kings could have as many mistresses as they liked and no one made a big deal about it. Princess Diana was a descendant of one of King Charles II's illegitimate children. Charles II's legal wife was a direct descendant of one of the illegitimate children of Pope Alexander VI.

Apparently there is a lineage society whose membership is restricted to those who can prove their descent from one of the illegitimate children of a king of England--popularly known as the Royal Bastards Society, although the official name is fancier.

“Charles was allowed to marry the divorced Camilla Parker-Bowles.”

Yes, but Mum interfered in the relationship. I always thought it was wonderful that he truly loved her. It wasn’t just a fling. He got stuck with Diana. Things would’ve been better if he’d been allowed to stay with Camilla from the beginning.

Crown William and make Charles the Sheikh of Araby. Camilla will look stunning in a burqa.

Appreciate your comments on this subject.

Agree as stated, this is not a slam against Charles but the Queen thinking long term.

Also good that William receives much of his instructions
from the Queen as it instills not just the general duties
but the history and purose.

Thanks agains for the article and your comments.
