Colorado State University makes their first predictions for next season.
Just weeks after the 2009 Atlantic hurricane season wraps up, the forecasters at Colorado State University are making their first round of predictions for the 2010 season.
Philip Klotzbach and William Gray predict 11 to 16 named storms in the forecast.
They say three to five of the storms will be major hurricanes with sustained winds of 111 mph or greater.
Gray says warm sea surface temperatures will contribute to above-average activity.
The forecast says there is a 64 percent chance of at least one major hurricane reaching the U.S. coastline.
Nine named storms developed last season.
Three became hurricanes, and none came ashore in the U.S.
The Colorado State team, which has issued forecasts for 27 years, will issue updates in April, June and August.
Well there's a prediction i never saw coming. /s
and here is the actual results:
Strongest storm: Bill 943 mbar (hPa) (27.86 inHg), 135 mph (215 km/h)
Total depressions: 11
Total storms: 9
Hurricanes: 3
Major hurricanes (Cat. 3+): 2
Which is a better record than these guys have had!
Yeah and they made nearly the exact same prediction last year which turned out to be wrong. What else is new???
The Law of Averages says they will be right SOMETIME.
They like recycling the same headline every year.since Katrina in 2005. Just change the the year, add some Global Warming filler, and you are good to go.
Dumb A##es forget that we have had mild seasons since 2005 despite their doom and gloom predictions.
I believe he is emeritus
Maybe, but they're predictions were darn close for 2009.
This is not about AGW. It’s about predicting hurricanes.
Didn’t they say the same thing about 2008 and 2009?
Yep. And we're all gonna die. Again.
I predict the number of hurricanes that will hit Colorado is zero.
We will have 10 named storms. If we have less than 10 then we will have 9 or fewer named storms and if we have more than 10 we will have at least 11 named storms if not more.
The United States mainland will be hit with at least one major hurricane unless it is hit with minor ones only or none at all. If that occurs no major storm will hit the main land. However, if the mainland is hit by more than one major hurricane then it will be hit with at least two, possibly more if there are more than two that hit.
The season will see above average activity unless the activity is average or below average.
Those are my predictions, I base my data on both my years on the coast and the fact I can fog a mirror.
I stand by these predictions.
OMG, not this crap again!
We haven’t seen a busy ‘cane season since 2004.
Ugh.
Hone up those skills!
So, this means that when their predictions fail next season, it will be “UNEXPECTED”.
LOL
You can trust me this time...
Wrong. If your broken clock is digital, it might be blank, i.e., always wrong.
