Criticism for Irvine councilman portraying Pelosi as Stalin

IRVINE - Councilman Steven Choi is taking heat from county political watchers for wearing a rendering of Nancy Pelosi as Stalin on his back at a keynote address the House Speaker gave at a recent Democratic Party of Orange County dinner.

Choi, who is also in the midst of an Assembly run, says he was not invited to Pelosi's speech at the Irvine Hilton, but chose to join several hundred protesters at the Harry S Truman Awards Dinner, a fundraiser that reportedly raised more than $125,000 for the local Democratic Party.

Choi was photographed from behind, but not identified, by an Orange County Register photographer as he walked through the Hilton. He was in a hotel dining area outside of the ballroom where the event was taking place.

Choi's identity was revealed in a Monday post at the LiberalOC blog, in which author Dan Chmielewski accused the councilman of embarrassing himself and the city.

"To portray Pelosi as Stalin, a mass murderer of millions during his reign of power, is nothing short of outrageous," Chmielewski wrote. "Choi owes the Speaker an apology. He owes his fellow city council members an apology. He owes the residents of this city an apology for his embarrassing antics."

Choi on Monday said he was simply demonstrating his distaste for Pelosi's policies, particularly her role in the ongoing health care debate.

"I'm a Republican Party member and went there to express my disapproval of her policies," Choi said. "I have big concerns with what is going on with the government pushing down the mandated health issues... As a small businessman it would impact me."

The error is that although the resemblance is uncanny, Joe Stalin had no facelifts until after he was officially dead.

As far as killing people goes, every rational person understands that Pelosi would like to exterminate ALL of her enemies.

If the shoe was on the other foot and the councilman was a Democrat comparing a Republican political figure to Hitler, the left would be screaming that criticism of the councilman was rooted in racism against Koreans.

Steven Choi and Christina Shea are the true conservatives on the Irvine City Council.

The others, Larry Agran (far left loon, ran for President in 1992), Beth Krom (running for Congress as a liberal Democrat), and Suki Kang (shook hands with 0bama) are true idiots. Why conservative Irvine continues to elect them to office is beyond reason

This is true. There are no Americans, living or dead, who share anything with genocidal monsters like Stalin or Hitler or Mao or Pol Pot, aside from such basics as walking on two legs and breathing air. The Left sounded like idiots when they compared Bush to Hitler, and this guy comparing Pelosi to Stalin does too.

The people or who's parents lived lived under the communist police states of N. Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Cuba, China, the former Soviet Union...are uniquely qualified to be able to comment on the similarity between modern Democrats and Uncle Joe.
