According to a criminal complaint, 41-year -old Stephen Louis Olson of Backus was angry the county planned to log the trees. Cass County officials say the stand is thinned every ten to 15 years. About 100 of the 600 trees were slated to be cut down and sold this month. The money would have benefitted the community and school district.

- Authorities say the entire forest must be cut down due to safety concerns. Mike Diekmann of the Cass County Sheriff's Office says that if a saw hit one of the nails, "it would explode like a gun going off" and could cause serious injury.

The solution seems simple to me - make mr. Olson cut the trees. He spiked them - he should “feel the sting” of the consequences.

>> Trees are a nonrenewable resource! <<

Yeah, I guess once you cut one down you cannot plant any replacements EVER.

If it were me I would metal detect only the area that the saw is going to cut through at the base. Then when they are hauled into the mill yard and are laying down, have them checked out completely with the detectors.

That does not guarantee zero risk

No there's only one solution here. Burn the forest to the ground and replant (It's the only way to be sure)

Tree bad, Fire Pretty.

Good idea! Let the nails come back and bite him in the face.

TRANSLATION FROM GOVERNMENT IDIOT-SPEAK:

"We have to cut all of the trees down because with the nails in them it is dangerous to cut the trees down."

Clear cut by cutting the trees at about 10 off the ground. Then bulldoze the stumps into a great big pile and have a bonfire party.

This is the 21 century and the United States of America. We make good products to detect metal in wood. Your idea of burning is dumb. At the very least you could but them through a chipper where some nails would make no difference to chipper blades. At least maybe get some paper instead of wasting the whole forest as you suggest.

They need to give serious time to tree spikers.

Hang them on the tree they spiked.

Leave them until the body falls to the ground.

Burn him to release the CO2.

The rest... put it in a landfill.

Now at the SAW MILL, they might have their own problems!

That's a fact. I use to run one of the big band saw head rigs and when you hit metal with that teeth go flying, sometimes the whole band saw comes apart.

Just cut off the trees supply of C02 and they’ll die.

Wise up, nobody likes a smart ass, especially coming from a “boy”. Think about it. You’re the one that would rather burn down a forest rather than find a simple solution.
