I’m not just talking about you. There are plenty of Romney guys on this thread. But I apologize for inferring that you were one.

As to the substance, I’ll grant you that you didn’t say universal wage control.

That said, I don’t think Adam Smith was as libertarian as the philosophy that you are putting forward. Gov. Jeb Bush set strict anti-gouging policies and not one conservative legislator ever objected. The government does have a regulatory place.

I see a clear difference between gouging and honest earnings of the fruits of ones labors. The store owner stocking up for clients only gives that owner the right to keep whatever he/she wants. If he engages in free commerce, he should be fined if he uses his position and peoples’ trust to jack up prices. It’s not stealing but it is cheating and unfair game.

But if I were to agree with you, and now that you’ve explained it I do at least respect your point of view, I still wouldn’t go after Huckabee alone on this - as every governor in the US has the same policy. I’d say there’s a fiscal problem and advocate for your favored economic policy.

Just as I find it objectionable for everyone to pile on Huckabee for doing what most governors would have done (and what the trial judge would have done), I also find the blame assigned to Huckabee over price gouging measures to be unwarranted if every other governor gets a pass for doing the exact same thing.

Again, sorry for the harsh tone that I should have reserved for TigerEyes, his tagteam pal and a few others. But I still strongly disagree with your point of view, although I am interested in hearing your refutation.

What is this "tagteam pal" stuff? I didn't ping anyone to this thread. Is everyone who disagrees with you my tagteam pal? That's quite a few FReepers. You are the one who included pandoraou812 in a post to me.

I am pinging her to this post per FReeper etiquette.

I cannot disagree with this statement more. The purpose of the store owner's stocking up is not to hold merchandise - it is to sell it at the highest price supported by the market. Under your statement, the store owner can either sell at a below-market price, or they can hold the merchandise until the price goes down.

Remember that the "gouge" is the real market price. If the merchandise is too high priced, the merchandise won't sell.

Gov. Jeb Bush set strict anti-gouging policies and not one conservative legislator ever objected.

I was under the impression I was discussing my own personal opinion. I cannot answer for anyone else's mind - I have enough trouble with my own. (LOL)

Just as I find it objectionable for everyone to pile on Huckabee for doing what most governors would have done (and what the trial judge would have done), I also find the blame assigned to Huckabee over price gouging measures to be unwarranted if every other governor gets a pass for doing the exact same thing.

In your article, you highlighted the pattern of Huckabee granting clemency at a rate higher than average. In fact, that was a badge of honor, unless I have completely misread your words.

But now you wish to discuss it in terms of equivalence to "every other governor". These two positions are wildly inconsistent. Either Huck is more prolifically clement than others or not. If he is, then the probability of a decision ending badly (note: I did NOT say a bad decision) is significantly increased.

Lastly, I must apologize for my taunting tone from last night. While I strongly disagree with many of your opinions, I could have expressed my disagreement more eloquently.

I suppose my coarser nature sometimes gets in the way, like most men (and women).
